This is getting out of hand. Not only are the fundies and Christian trolls sending hate mail to atheists and other non-Christians, but to moderate/liberal Christians too. I seem to have missed the Bible verse where it says to flame all those who don't believe exactly what you do.

CJ: Shall I email you my library of hate mail from fundamentalists? I know not all "fundies" are like that, I come from a family of good ole downhome Baptists and love them all dearly. I'm just saying the ones who send hate mail, from my experience and the experiences of several of my contacts, are usually extreme conservative fundamentalists.

And I would love to get some fresh air, but I'm stuck at work until 5.

Sadly, some people who claim the name Christian don't practice the teachings of the Lord and Savior they profess to follow. Fred Phelps and his family are just one of the many extreme examples.

Hang in there. I'm one of those liberal Christians. I believe in God, not in the bible. All we can do is love them as Christ loves us, and hope and pray that the Holy Spirit touches their hearts.

Although he has resisted the impulse to publish them, Sam Harris opens his book "Letter to a Christian Nation" By noting that the most venomous and hateful of all mail he received after publishing The End of Faith always included copious scripture quotations.

There are other alternatives than love letters and hate mail. Christians are responsible for defending the faith, and this may sometimes require a strongly worded response. Obviously, it is unchristian to attack the person rather than the idea.

Christianity is a complex faith that can't be reduced to a simple requirement to love. For example, we should hate cruelty and treachery. We should hate child abuse. We should hate racial prejudice.

they either are christians or they are not ,but this just points out that we should always spend more time shareing the word else where , because the majority of the person on a&s are so opionated that if they were looking for salvation or love they would be elsewhere.

Hello,

Jesus was no pushover and had a temper as well. He called some people hypocrites, others broods of vipers, cursed a fig tree and did he not chase the money changers and merchants out of the temple with a whip as well as chastising the people that the prophets were never welcomed in their time?

There is nothing saying Christians must be sweet and coddling like Rebbecca of Sunnybrook Farm or take verbal abuse at that.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

"suffer not a witch to live"

i guess some fundies have a very "liberal" definition of what a witch is....they have certainly justified greater wrongs in the name of god than mere hate mail. be grateful your machine is between you and them.

Why do you call them Christians and group them all together? I am a christian but I don't send hate mail, I get alot from non-believers but I don't send any back. I even got quite a non-understanding message from a non-believer because I accidentally added him to my contacts...
