Personally I enjoy going to my niece's parties and I enjoy having family at my parties...more presents and it gives a chance to see family......You do not have to stop something because you think you have to.....you can have 2 different parties or combine the two.

Once you are a teen you usually have a "kids" party then a small gathering for family some other time.

thats not to say there should not be adults there during the kids party (supervision is a must - especially at sweet 16 and 18 bd parties).

I say as long as everyone mixes well, you can still do gatherings of family+friends after age 16. Usually what happens is everyone mingles together for cake and presents and then the family and friends will migrate to talk to people they already know, and thus it'll turn into two different parties.

I never had a birthday party. But i think it's up to the person that's having the birthday. Some people like to party.

Why should age determine it? It's simple, if you don't like your family, don't invite them. If you do like your family, invite them. There's no reason not to have your family there if you like them. (Now, if you invite them, and they choose not to come, then that's on them.)

But why care otherwise? If your concerned that other people will care, do you really want those other people in your life if they're going to view you negatively for liking your family?

When it comes to family, true maturity is accepting and being proud of your family.

Probably never - just have 2 parties, one for family and the other for friends.

I'd say pro bally 17, your last year, before adulthood, but you still celebrate with family and friends, you just don't have games and toys, you have adult parties or dinners, its a bummer getting old

Have 2 parties. one for your family, one for your friends. As you get older you'll probably start having a family dinner, then going to the bar with your friends. but you're still young so you'll probably have to mix the two, friends and family.
