Alexander was born in Macedonian. Both cultures take pride in Alexander being one of theirs though. All of my professors have referred to him exclusively as a Macedonian though.

Some one is right here in saying that Greece means Athens.

But Greeks means Macedonian as well as a race. For they spoke the same language as did Athenians.

in Alexander's time Macedonia was a kingdom completely different from Athens - or what we call Greece.
So, Alexander was Macedonian, not Greek

Alexander was the son of Philip of Macedonia, who was asked by Greece to become the head of their armed forces. i believe his title was captain-general. this made Alexander a Macedonian. upon the death of his father( some say it was patricide) Alexander assumed the title and command that Philip had held. this, i suppose gave him dual citizenship. is that clear enough?

My brother-in-law ( who is Greek ) is adamant that Alexander
did in fact come from Greece but admits that the geography and borders of countries then were dramatically different from those of today.

Macedonia was in Greece. So I suppose that makes him Greek.
