Atheists are obviously far less arrogant than are most of the believers. You've never seen an atheist claim that his words, preferences, and behavioral choices are those of "god". Believers claim that kind of thing all the time. Just look at "No1Home" (below).
There are believers who are relatively humble, and of course some atheists who are arrogant. But there is no arrogance in the atheist pointing out that there is no god, or in ridiculing ridiculous beliefs like those of the creationist.

I don't think you did it intentionally but you seem to be loading the question. Kind of like this:
What is better a married couple that beat each other, or a couple that lives together.
Not making a statement on the above, but I feel like you just allowed the atheist a basic belief, but embellished the believer's belief in a pejorative way.
Maybe rephrase.

I'd say the most arrogant is the one who doesn't understand others' beliefs and then judges them based on their own misperceptions. I don't know any major religion that believes the way you just described.

The latter. They always sound so brainwashed and stupid.
It makes me sick when I listen to them crooning on about God did this for them or God did that for them. God is always responsible for their successful operation but if anything goes wrong it's the surgeons fault so the sanctimonious hypocrites can sue him.
You never hear an Atheist talking in anything like those terms, more often than not you don't know what he believes because he doesn't normally volunteer the information.

I don't think this is a matter of arrogance as much as ignorance.
In which case...obviously the religious ones need to get their act straight.

The arrogance is not in the belief or lack of, but the hypocrisy of having a belief and not living by it.

An atheist who says there is no God is like a neutrino that is shot out of an atom in my arm, and in the billionth of a second during it's existence, says that *I* don't exist.
That is the ultimate arrogance.
When you've lived several billion years, when you've visited the farthest outreaches, not of our galaxy alone, but of the entire universe, when you have all knowledge that you know the depth of the mysteries of the universe, THEN you are qualified to say there is no God. Until then, you're just an arrogant fool ("The fool says in his heart there is no God").
And it is pride that keeps the atheist from admitting that he is wrong!
"Wise men still seek Him" - do YOU? (You DO know what the opposite of "wise" is, don't you?"
Additional note:
A neutrino is a particle with neither a mass, nor a charge, that is shot out of the nucleus of an atom when bombarded with certain types of energy.
