BEER BREAD !!!! I baked it often, 25 - 50 years ago, but in the last 20 years I have forgotten the exact formula, and how long to let the beer set, before mixing with the self rising flour. Thanks, Uncle Wil

FANTASTIC !!!!! I will not pick a best answer, at this time, as they all bring back memories of yesteryear when I would get up on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and make breakfast, while the wife and children slept-in .

As I have read your fine responces, I noted that every one above souldogs, has recieved a thumbs down !!!! NOT FROM ME !!!
Could that NUT be someone who believes that any mention of beer is directly associated with a one way trip to hell??, Or, is this some one I have irritated with one of my answers, not agreeing with a subject I have had an experience with ???

Wow! That brings back memories, I forgot all about this easy & delish bread. It's been a long time for me, too, but I think this recipe is the one I used...
beer bread
3 cups self-rising flour*
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 (12-ounce) can of beer
1. Preheat oven to 375*F (190*C). Lightly grease or spray a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Combine all ingredients, mixing well.
3. Pour into prepared loaf pan and bake for 1 hour.
Makes 1 loaf.
*Or you may substitute with 3 cups all purpose flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt.

Here's an easy way to remember the recipe. I call it 3-2-1 bread. 3 cups of the flour, 2 Tbsp sugar, 1 bottle/can of beer. I just mix the dry stuff first, stir the beer in, dump in a pan and bake until it looks done.
Oh, and I use warm beer, but never let it rest in the batter. It's a quick bread after all. Just remember "3-2-1" and you'll never forget! :)

3/4 cup beer
4 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 cup bread flour (or all purpose flour)
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
4 teaspoons olive oil
2 cups bread flour (or all purpose flour)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
For the starter: In a medium mixing bowl combine the beer and brown sugar.
Sprinkle the first teaspoon yeast over beer mixture; stir to dissolve.
Stir in the first bread flour.
Mix well.
Cover with plastic wrap; let stand at room temperature (75-85 deg) for 12 to 24 hours.
(Placed in oven with light on--electric, or pilot light--gas, also works well for this.)
Bake 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or bread machine
Add the starter and the remaining ingredients to the machine according to the manufacturer's directions.
Select the basic white bread cycle

12 months is the limit for formula. Formula is a substitute for cows milk and breast milk. Remember before formula was developed, generations were fed cows milk. Any way homogenized cows milk provides the nutrients a child needs for optimal brain development. Wean the child from the bottle at 12 months too.

If in doubt, I always go to my favorite cook in the world.. Nana. She said, regardless of which recipe you choose, make sure the beer sets til it is at least room temperature. Ice cold beer may be fine on a hot day but it doesn't do so well with cooking.

Mmmmm. . . Beer!
That reminds me, I drank my last beer on Friday, so I need to swing by the grocer and buy another 12-pack of Red Hook or Widmer Hefeweizen.
Haven't got the patience to make bread with it. I just want the BEER!!!

It's easy, you use beer instead of milk and let the dough raise as usual. You don't need to let the beer set. Just pour it in and mix, let raise and bake. Vola! Beer bread.
