how long do it take to become a pastry chef?

Generally about 2 years, depending on what place you're studying at. Go for it though, pastry chefs are in high demand and get great pay. I wish I would have gone into pastry.

Ryan M is absolutely right. You can spend all that money to be making 8 - 9 dollars an hour, which is nothing.
