I'm 23 years old. As soon as I graduated highschool I joined the military. I was unable to to take any college class while I was active. Now I'm out and I don't know how to get started. I know nothing about how to even start. I've done some researching online but i'm just so frusterated about it all. I want to go to school but I'm clueless on what needs to me down testing and such - took asvab)I'm 23 years old. As soon as I graduated highschool I joined the military. Ok here what you should do?

Go to one of the community colleges around your house. Community college is a good start because it will introduce you to a college environment. You don't need SAT or any other scores. All you need is your High school degree. You will take an entrance exam..Math and English. Don't worry, there is no pass and fail. The test will determine which level Math and English you need.
You make an appointment with the college counselor and he/she will tell you about the system. Basically, you take classes for 2- 3 years before transferring to a University of your choice. Your counselor will give you the list of classes you need to transfer. Make sure you study hard and maintain a good GPA.
Also apply for financial aid. Since you served in the army, I am pretty sure you will get Aid.

If you have any other question, e-mail me. I will be happy to guide you.

Most likely there's a community college near you. If you want to start at a small local college (or at a larger school for that matter), check the phone book or the web and contact the Admissions office and they will talk to you about what tests/paperwork are required for admission. Then you might want to talk to the financial aid office. Anyway, both those offices will gladly send you some information and forms to fill out, and you can read through that at your leisure. Good luck to you.

In general, a college will request the following
-SAT or ACT test scores
-essay(s)
-high school records

Instead of searching for general information, you might want to pick out one school and crawl their website, and download the application. You certainly don't have to apply to this first one, but it will give you a good idea of what you need to do.
