My top row of teeth are fine; It's the bottom row that would need to have braces. Would the cost still be the same or would it be lower? I have a feeling some dentists may insist on putting braces on both rows of teeth, even if one row is fine.

I only asked this because over the past 7 years, my bottom teeth have 'dropped down' so to speak, to where I now have an open bite, which I've never had before. My top row of teeth have remained in place and unchanged. Also, I saw a commercial where this guy had braces just on his bottom teeth.

An open bite is when the front teeth don't touch together. In other words, if I wanted to tear open a bag of potato chips or bite my nails I couldn't.

They will only put braces on the teeth that need them and charge you accordingly. Orthodontists do NOT put braces on teeth that don't need them as they would liable for any damage done if they did this. Trust me they just don't do that as it is unethical and probably illegal.

No, an orthodontist does not necessarily put braces on both sets of teeth if one set doesn't need it. I'm due to get braces put on tomorrow and my ortho said he might only do my bottom row of teeth but is still pretty undecided. So, to answer ur question, no only the teeth that have problems.

It's possible and happens frequently. If a dentist concludes what you've indicated, then they can apply braces on the bottom only. A legitimate dentist will not insist on costly procedures if it's not needed. As for the price, it would be half the cost than having them applied to top and bottom, depending on the type of braces and how many needed.

yes, lots of people are lucky enough to only get them on the bottom,...butmost arent.
you may think that your top row is fine and looks good but there are still things that arent perfect, believe me! you cant see them but thyre there.
if you get braces on your top you might not think anything will really happen-but it will and youll see huge changes...inever had very many problems on my bottom row but i saw so many things change when i got my braces on
i dont know what na "open" bite is, i think you mean underbite or over bite...
the difference is:
an overbite; your top row of teeth will come over and cover your bottom row when you bite normally
and an underbite; when you bite normally, your top row get covered by your bottom row of teeth
you might get braces on your top just because then youll get elastics...and if you ARE lucky and dont get braces on the top then they might bond these little tiny metal posts to some of your top teeth just so that you are able to wear the elastics...also if it is an overbite that you have, then you could also have 2 small piece of plastics bonded behind your front teeth which would just keep you from bitting off your bottom row of brackets
even if you do get brace son top; it does suck for the time being but if they put them on their they put them on for a reason and it will be all worh it when its through!!

Sometimes people only need to straighten lower teeth, however most of the time you will also need top braces to slightly move upper teeth into the correct positioning to fit the new bite that will be made by straightening lower teeth. It just depends on your bite. The maintenance fees are usually the same however the initial application and supply fee would be less if only lower braces were needed.

Hello,
You have to see your orthodontist. When he or she checks your teeth and says you only need them on your bottom, they will put it ONLY on your bottom. You can't just say you just need them on the bottom. The orthodontist has to do his or her job by taking moldings and x rays to make sure everything is in it's place. Hopefully you only need the bottom. Orthodontist will not put on braces on the top if you don't need them.
Usually, when you only need them on the bottom, they come to a reasonable price to you. Check it out a negotiate and see what you can get out of it!
Good Luck!

The cost should be cut in half. Of course it is possible, you will just need to consult an orothodontic. Some dentist seem to be very greedy but look around. Most offer free consults, were if they insit to put them on the top simply go to another.
