that some people say they don't believe in God, but whenever something bad happens to them they blame it on Him? Meaning they do believe in him but I don't know I'm confused...

I actually did see this on a debate between some atheists and Kirk Cameron and that guy from New Zealand. An audience member who claimed to be an atheist stood up and said, "If there is a God, then why did my sister get cancer and die?"

Who can figure out people's motives for their beliefs (or non-belief)? I think a lot of people who say they don't believe in God are disappointed in Him for not helping them at a time they were in dire need. But I also think these people have a wrong concept of who God is. They want God to fit into their molds, rather than fitting themselves into God's mold.

To some people they only believe in god when their lives are going good so as long as god is helping them then they believe in him they mite even say they don't believe but they do then if something bad happens they auto matically blame god because its easier for them to blame some one else then take responsibility for their own action an in time of weakness we AL blame some one or something for what happen but very rarely god but they just need some one to blame.

I suspect that you really are confused.

I do not blame god for bad things happening, any more than I blame Zeus, Odin, Osiris or unicorns and mermaids. They are all fables. They get no credit, they get no blame.

Many atheists point out the dual standard of believers who thank God for saving them from the burning building (The firemen might have had something to do with it though) but then do not thank God for letting the children (who were not found by the firemen) burn to death.

Attributing good things to God and bad things to poor luck is cherry picking and a hypocrisy.

You can't blame God and not believe in God at the same time. If someone blames God, they're not a real Atheist.

Really? Its news to me. If someone doesn't believe in gods that's it period. They don't suddenly change when things go bad.

As an atheist, I say "god d*mn", and "jesus christ" and the likes, all the time. It is more out of habit now (was catholic for 27 years).
