My son (24) had emergency surgery this morning to remove his appendix & they also had to do a bowel re-section due to the Crohn's Disease that he has had for 10 years. He will be in the hospital for 5-6 days and then sent home to recuperate. I will have to fly from Chicago to NY to take care of him. Does anyone have any idea how long it will be before he can go back to work?

I would say it depends more on the state of his Crohn's disease than on his appendectomy. If his Crohn's is quiescent, he could possibly return to work in a week after returning home. He shouldn't lift anything heavier than, say, 10 pounds. Afternoon fatigue persists for a week or two, so two weeks recovery after release from the hospital is more realistic.

I had an appendectomy, and they said I could go to school next week. I also have Crohn's Disease, but I'm only 16 and I was recently diagnosed. So I haven't a resectioning. My aunt had it and she was told not lift anything heavy for 2 to 4 weeks. It also depends on how bad the Crohn's disease is and how demanding the job is. I would say probably 4-6 weeks, but that depends on how demanding the job is.
I hope your son feels better and God bless.
Love Sarah.

No idea about the Bowel resectioning, but the appendectomy is something that most people are out of the hospital the next day for and should be able to rejoin the work force a few days after that as long as it didn't pop.
