My sister is going through the process of legalizing her husband. I am not exagerrating when I say she's paid more than $6,000. She started the prcess in 2004 and she just recieved thier final packet. Plus she'll need more money. This is for just 1 person can u imagine a wole family?Plus, you have to have someone legal in the U.S to sponser u. A lot of peolpe dont have anyone. You can't wait and let your family starve to enter legally. I guess thats why some people do it illegally. If the government wants to legalize they've got to make it simplier and faster.

Well that is the sacrifice that you have to make..People do it legally all the time so there is no excuse to do it illegally.

It isn't ment to be easy or cheap. If it was easy and cheap then everyone would come here and there'd be no jobs, no housing, no way to make a better life for yourself and your family. The "wealth" and oppertunity isn't a bottomless pit. Before long with that belief you'll be starving here as well. Everyone in foreign countries aren't starving either. Meaning there is wealth and a means to make their countries better......they just don't because they want the wealth for their select few. Our country unfortunatly is heading in that direction too. Before long you'll be deciding which country would you rather die in because there won't be enough to go around. Our resources are already dwindling to where there are water shortages and such. One country can't support everyone who wants to come there simply because it's good for now.

I've paid more than 6,000 in property taxes for a home I already own just to keep a roof over my head. Being a citizen isn't free or easy either.

I dissagree, it should be extremely difficult or almost immpossable to get into the U.S.
What we really need to do is to end all immigration for 20-30 years while we clean up this mess.
Then we could have immigration rates at reasonable levels like 100-200,000 per year.
We simply can't have 3 million people per year entering this country (legally) and 2 million (Illegally)
Russia needs immigration!
Their population is falling drastically!

I know someone who has applied in 2001 for a green card, their state is so far behind on applications that the paperwork was spread out among three states for people who has started the green card process.

Eventually the first set of paperwork has been approved this spring (2007) and now the set second set of forms have now gone in. They have been told it will be done by Sept 2008.

That is seven years, imagine seven years of lawyers fees! This application is for a family and is sponsored through work.

One other guy I know, is sitting on his first set of papers, because of the 'approval dates' and they are still working on 2002, his approval date is 2006, his lawyer says unless they change the system and policy to apply he will have to wait another 12 years before his approval date is reached for him to put his first set of paperwork in.

This is for my State and may be different for other states. I knew some one who got a green card from start to finish in less than two years. Due to his state having a prompt and effective processing policy of applications. So alot depends where you live

I agree it takes too much money and to much time. I know someone who paid 1000 dollars just for the first paper petition and its been since April 2001 and she is still waiting for a date on when she will have an interview just to get work papers. 7 years and nothing has been done.

it's not meant to be easy to immigrate otherwise as with the illegals you get too large of an influx. do you think some people should have to wait and pay and some people should get a free pass? look at the clip you'll see what will happen with unchecked immigration.

No, but he broke the law to begin with. Why should it be easy to wipe that completely off the books?

Too many want to come for us to be able to afford to subsidize in our schools and services, and to allow for wages to provide taxes that actually provide such things. We have a right to have limits, and that means the answer will often be 'no'.

Other countries' laws are even stricter.

To be entitled to all the US of A offers its citizens, one must be legal.

When you consider a coyote charges $5000.00 per person, $6,000 over a several year time frame is not that bad. It will be worth it.

That is true! I am glad someone is finally shedding some light on this issue. Then when you do finally get here there will be a longer wait to get your green card because of the huge back log! This is what no one is complaining about. They just decide to focus on illegal immigration instead of the real issue which is the inefficiency of the process!
