If by religion you mean the gathering of people to go through the motions of their own forms of worshiping their particular deity, then the end of that would probably lead to other forms of religion. If by religion you mean believing in God or higher powers, then the end of religion would mean the end of humankind, since each of us has the innate need for some sort of belief system, whether it be belief in God or belief there is no God (which becomes a religion itself). To take that away would indeed bring peace; there would be no fighting because there would be no humans (as we know them)!
