Most other Christians especially from this site go on what other Christians and non believers say about them, or angry x- catholics who couldn't deal with all the rules and left the Church. The Catholic church does have a lot of rules and can be very strict which most people don't like.
The others pick on us because they do not or will not try to see our point of view, they see pictures of Mary or statues and automatically say we are worshiping them, they see us looking in to the saints lives for inspiration and claim we are worshiping them as well.
It's easier to make up nonsense and hate us then actually looking at the facts.
Oh also they see us giving tithing so we can support our priests, nuns and church along with the many social services they so loving provide for the needy because they do not make any money themselves, and then they say we are just money grubbers, with out looking at where the money is going or understanding that most Churches do have some sort of tithing , but we're the ones that get picked on for it

There are nonetheless some vast problems with Catholicism although. the reality that purely Catholics can take communion at Catholic centers and others can no longer is terrible. Jesus on no account might have refused human beings like that. To be in touch in a Catholic provider, you should be attentive to a thank you to do each little thing, and characteristic memorized many stuff. It makes outsiders experience undesirable, and not at risk of return returned. Mary and another saints are large, yet they at the instant are not God so they should no longer be prayed to. the place did the Pope even come from? i will say, considering, such as you reported, Catholicism has been around the longest, they're probable precise approximately some issues, like the way they interpret the bible,

I am a convert to Catholicism.
As a Protestant I believed that Catholics worshiped Mary and idols. I believed that Catholics would choose to sin whenever, because they could just go to confession and then be off the hook. I thought that priests were for the most part alcoholics.
But to back all that up...I had Catholic friends in high school who agreed with me. When I asked...do you worship idols..i was told "yes" by these young Catholics.
Now, I'm Catholic. I converted 10 years ago. I have found out that all those things are not true...not even close! In embracing the faith I have found so much truth, so much love and obediance to Christ that I only wish I had come into the Church sooner. Understanding the Eucharist, our devotion to the Mother of God, confession, the saints, etc. is so amazing. Once you understand it's all so clear and the ridiculous things that many Protestants say would be laughable if they weren't taken so seriously by others.
As Catholics one of the most important things is to teach your children the faith. Don't just tell them what to do...tell and show them why. Live your faith every day not just on Sunday. Respect the Eucharist and approach with reverance and awe...teach your children the sacraments. Teach them the love with which the Church obligates Catholics. Teach them that obediance to God through the authority of the Church is for their spiritual good and protection! Follow the teachings of the Church youself, and be an example to your children.
I see so many families at Church who act like they haven't a clue why they are there. Their kids are in and out of the pew, running back and forth...no respect for our Lord present in the Tabernacle. No respect for the consecration. Entire familes skipping out right after receiving. These are the kids who then tell their Protestant friends..."yeah, we worship idols." Because they haven't got a clue what their own faith teaches.
Addition: Inskter7 above me is an example of a Catholic who did not understand her faith. She misunderstands the "whys" of the teachings of the Chuch and the traditions. She misunderstand the devotion to Mary. We need to raise Catholics who know thier faith otherwise they are easily lost to Protestant sects.
Also...CJ is another good example of someone who has no clue about Catholicism. He has heard certain things and believes them without knowing anything. Sad...very sad.

OK, I have to disagree with some of what is being said. I was a devout Catholic for most of my life. When I went through a very horrible divorce, 10 years ago, I really was lost. I happened upon a little Christian church and there I remained. My daughter had been baptized in the Catholic Church and did make her First Communion in the Catholic church. I felt it only right that when she is old enough to make the choice on where she would worship. My church and I personally do not have any negative things to say about Catholics. You must admit however that Mary and the saints are put on a much higher level than other Christian sects. Correct me if I'm wrong but I still think it is common for Catholics to pray to a saint to intercede on their behalf with Jesus. That is not done in other Christian denominations. Certainly we admire Mary and the other saints as role models, but don't pray to them to intercede for us. That's why Jesus came to earth to intercede to the Father for us. My daughter and I go to the Catholic Church occasionally when we miss service at our church. We recently did that and I asked my daughter what she thought. She said that she liked the fact(as do I) that every Mass has communion where Christians generally only have it once a month. She liked the structure in part but thought it was a little rigid. She also said "there is more interaction at our usual church and more warmth and friendliness than here during the service". At the Catholic Church the priest and congregation recited the Our Father and the priest said "hold hands if you like". We're very used to doing that and I had to remind myself that most Catholics don't do that..and in fact most did not. The Pope again is taking the place of Jesus in speaking from the Vatican. The whole thing about Fish on Friday or it's a sin, then that was dropped. Christians rely on the Bible far more than any Catholic I know. For me personally I think that is a huge difference between Catholics and other Christian sects. We also don't confess our sins to a priest, which again, why should he have to intervene for us. I'll leave the priest scandals out of this discussion, but even more so due to that. God Bless all Christians whether Catholic or other Christian sects. We need to work together for Jesus' kingdom to flourish.

I recently went to a conference at which a AoG minister and Pentecostal speaker(who has a doctorate in Patristics) lamented how ignorant about and hostile towards the Catholic Church , her history ,doctrines and liturgy many of the leaders in his church and in many other non Catholic churches are ;yet they preach against Catholics with an error-filled characterture of Catholicism and pass on their hatreds and misunderstandings to others
If Catholics and Non Catholics want an accurate source of Catholic teaching they should read the Catechism of the Catholic Church and primary sources like the Conciliar and Vatican documents and the Bible in its Catholic context. However, some people are so lazy, hateful or deluded that will never go near primary sources in their contexts.

There are tons of misconceptions hurled at the Church. Constantly. Mostly I see it from the Protestants. Whatever the reason - personal bias, inaccurate education, etc. - all they have to do is run a few internet searches if they HONESTLY want to know what the Church teaches. EVERYTHING is online now. There's no excuse to be ignorant of what the Church teaches, even if the education is only for academic purposes.
God bless.

Hello everyone. I wanted to start off by saying that I do not know a whole lot about the Catholic Church. I know some Catholics, but never got the chance to sit down and talk with them. My wife and I are youth leaders at our church and we had some youth talk to us about differences...and our best answer was I do not know a lot about it...but what I do know is that it does not matter about our religion or denomination, but the RELATIONSHIP. It is all about the relationship that you have with our savior. I do not think that it really matters about what religion you say you have or denomination you are, but it is all about the RELATIONSHIP. I do not know why people think about Catholics like that, I really do not. If they are, they are not showing the love and kindness that God calls us to show.
God called us here to spread the good news. He has called us here to fight about which religion/denomination is right, but to spread the good news that He has given us. We must be the Salt and the Light for everyone to see...giving HIM all the gloy!!

"There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church—which is, of course, quite a different thing. These millions can hardly be blamed for hating Catholics because Catholics “adore statues;” because they “put the Blessed Mother on the same level with God;” because they “say indulgence is a permission to commit sin;” because the Pope “is a Fascist;” because the Church “is the defender of Capitalism.” If the Church taught or believed any one of these things, it should be hated, but the fact is that the Church does not believe nor teach any one of them. It follows then that the hatred of the millions is directed against error and not against truth. As a matter of fact, if we Catholics believed all of the untruths and lies which were said against the Church, we probably would hate the Church a thousand times more than they do.
If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates. My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as He was when He was on earth in the flesh. If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world. Look for the Church that is hated by the world, as Christ was hated by the world. Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times, as Our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior, as they sneered at Our Lord because He came from Nazareth. Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil, as Our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the Prince of Devils. Look for the Church which the world rejects because it claims it is infallible, as Pilate rejected Christ because he called Himself the Truth. Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions, its members love as they love Christ, and respect its voice as the very voice of its Founder, and the suspicion will grow, that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world, then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly, it is other-worldly. Since it is other-worldly, it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ Himself. ... the Catholic Church is the only Church existing today which goes back to the time of Christ. History is so very clear on this point, it is curious how many miss its obviousness..."

do you know anything about other Christian beliefs? So what if thats what they think, its not their belief anyway. what needs to be thought of is why there is always a change in the Bible and why are some Catholic beliefs and rules not fixed- like this situation today is a sin and then tomorrow, its not?
dont expect people to know the doctrine of the Roman Catholic when I , a Catholic myself, question my own religion.
