Record loads of promo cds (NOT tapes) and just keep handing them out to all the managers of venues...post them if needed.
give them out to the guys outside clubs too as its sometimes the clubbers who listen to them who know someone in the business or venue.
dont give up...it may take while but if your a good DJ it wont matter.
have you thought about adding some of your mixing to your 360 page if you have one?
good luck mate

We started up our own little DJ company. We had JBL speakers with Peavey Subwoofers. I would suggest getting two amps to run both (if you get both). We had a conditioner and a mixer, but that's more for band stuff. We also had a light board so we can easily run our lights from the console. We had a mini-gressor, fogger, strobe, moonflower, laser, rotating beacon and disco ball. All work really well. Songs are very important. A typical DJ has around 10,000 songs at their disposal, and new songs are coming out all the time (and don't last long either.) It takes quite a bit of money to start off. Our set-up was right around $10,000 to start up (with songs and everything).

I agree with Razzle.... make promo cds and start knocking on every club's door. The problem you will run into is that alot of these clubs have a DJ in place, and usually if he/she is doing a good job, they don't look for anyone else. But if you can get your foot in the door, by working on the regular dj's night off, etc, you can have the opportunity to show off your skills, and maybe the club will work you in on a more regular basis.
This is how I keep my job- where i started dj-ing, the resort was just changing formats, and did not have a PA in place. I put in my own equiptment (I get pd extra for supplying that) and if any new guy comes around looking for a job, they cant hire him because i own all the speakers, lights, etc.....
You might think about buying a moblie PA and float from club to club, might get your name out there and get you more work.

CD Business cards are a good way to distribute your message be sure to include a short mix. Get a good website together and begin promoting it. Also, talk to some of the local clubs and see if they are using a promoter. For a small fee this promoter can promote you as well. Also talk to some of the venues and see if you can throw a party yourself then advertise! Make sure you have plenty of business cards and you should get word of mouth going pretty quickly. Also, work with your local radio station if they do not already provide a live music feed. Sometimes radio stations will only allow their DJs to spin (or at least DJ's they are confident in their performance).
Hope this helps...

Place an ad in the paper. Here in STL there is a paper called the RFT which has ads for entertainment/musicians needed all the time. Perhaps there's a similar one running somewhere close to where you live.
