So, I decided I wanted to change the color of my formal living room to a dark red and gold in honor of the fall season approaching. I went to Home Depot and got the colors that I liked and came home to paint, well...I didn't get enough red so I went back to Home Depot.

The color I got is sold out. Great, right? I bought a color that I THOUGHT would be right and now there is a huge spot of red on my wall that doesn't match and the color I selected is no where to be found. I've already painted half of my living room that color and that room is huge.

What do I do????

I didn't have it mixed. I liked the color on the shelf, so I bought it. I went about a month ago and got it but I own a business and didn't have time until today to paint. Now they don't have any more of what I need on the shelf. I don't know what makes that fishy...

Any time you paint an area that requires more than one gallon of paint, you have to "box" the paint, that is, you have to mix all the paint your going to use in a 5 gallon pail to get a uniform color match especially with red or bright/loud colors no matter if it's the exact same paint---slight tinting variations from one batch to another will show up. Best choice is to order the paint from HD or take a sample of the paint to another store and have them mix it up. Then repaint the whole room again to get a quality job---no way to cut corners if you want it to look good. A good tinted primer will also cut down on the number of coats required to match the color.

If you have the used can of paint you can take the lid in (if it has any dried paint on it) and have it color matched. It could cost a little more but they could match the color really close. Then you could repaint the whole wall so it was even. I gallon does 350 square feet. That is a ten foot tall wall and 35 feet long.

Go back to Home Depot and ask them to check other Home Depot Stores, if they don't have it, then order it, takes around 5 days.

How does paint get sold out???? Usually, you have it mixed according to a recipe.... Sounds fishy to me....

Have you considered going to another Home Depot? What brand paint is it? You may be able to get it at another paint store.

Strange.....
