C.L. what are you talking about? The passion of the christ besides being an anti semetic, bloody and historically inaccurate movie was by far the most popular "jesus movie ever made. What is ignorant about the question?

I loved "Passion" but couldn't watch the bloody violent parts, and think it would have been an even better movie if they had cut the blood by about 75%.
I chalk it up to Mel Gibson's Catholic roots.
They're big on the blood.

Well, to differ with JCS above, The Passion was not antisemitic, any more than the Gospel of John was. Or are we supposed to think that a itinerant band of norsemen came to Jerusalem to crucify him? Accurate? There were a couple of places where corners were cut or embellished, but it followed the Gospels pretty accurately.
To answer the question, though why is it the favorite? One line from the movie says it all: Jesus to his mother: "Do you see, Mama? Do you see how I remake the world?"

I know what you mean. Christians everywhere wallowed in the violence depicted in that movie. With a blood thirsty god, comes the blood thirsty brood. It was a filthy and disgusting movie that pandered to the delusional christian masses.

By far the most bloody and violent? Are you KIDDING? The movies which display graphic violence are mostly secular films with the gratuitous violence added for shock value. The violence displayed in Christian movies are mostly associated with the depiction of the Crucifixion of Christ which was a violent event. Capitol punishment often is. What is your point???

I loved "The Nativity Story". There was no blood or violence in that. I also liked "Bruce Almighty" and "Evan Almighty"; they were not bad depictions of God either, and they gave good messages.

As an atheist, my favorite film was "The Last Temptation of Christ", starring Willem Defoe and directed by Martin Scorsese. I liked it because it made the character of Jesus INTERESTING, particularly by showing Jesus as man rather than as the son of God -- he's full of doubts and reluctance, knowing full well the destiny that looms for him upon the horizon. I also particularly like Harvey Keitel as Judas -- even with the goofy red hair....

I saw The Passion of Jesus the Christ and believe me, it is NOT my favorite. Seeing it once is definitely enough.

Look at it this way... if it weren't for an all-loving god, war would not have escalated between Christians and Pagans.
