My female cat uses the litter box about about ten times a day.
I don't understand why she has to go so much and I'm going to have to start cleaning the litter box out twice a day. She eats a can of Fancy Feast (the expensive kind) and I keep a bowl full of dry food and water full for her. She isn't fat. And she complains every morning until I give her the Fancy Feast. She never finishes the dry food but she does drink her water. Does anyone know if I'm feeding her too much. As I said, she isn't fat at all. I just think that using the box so much is a little strange. Let me know what you think, please.

Our cats use to get a can of wet food in the morning (I understand the complaining, the minute my alarm would go off, they were meowing until the can opener came out) They would get a bowl of dry food (like yours, hardly ever touched) and a bowl of water. After talking with our vet, I took them off the wet food completely. The litter box use to stink to high heaven, and after taking them off the wet food, it's fine. Also, my mum's cat lived on wet food, now at 15, she has NO teeth. The vet said it was because she had always had wet food.

The wet food isn't really good for them plain. I know it's a pain but instead of giving it to her plain take half the can and mix it into the dry food. She still gets what she wants but she gets the solid food with it. That way you aren't spending as much on the Fancy Feast since one can will last you two days. Also ten times a day really isn't that much figure up how many times you use the restroom in a day and then figure in that her little bladder is only a percentage of yours. Sounds like you have a healthy cat that just wants her way at breakfast time. She might whine and complain for a few days but just cuddle with her by the end of a week of only getting half a can she will probably be used to it.

A full bladder would be the size of a golf ball or tangerine in the litter box, how big are the wet areas when she's peeing?

If it's just dabs, a few drops, or less than a teaspoon, then she could be starting a urinary infection. It makes her want to pee all the time, but the bladder isn't full so only a little comes out. It can be treated, if it's a UTI it's not going to be making her feel very good. Usually cats pee only twice a day, and poop once.

I also agree with the vet. But because it's not helping that everybody is telling you to go to the vet I will tell you this: Fancy Feast isn't a high quality food. It's expensive but it has made most of my cats sick. So now I use Friskies wet can food. It's great. Maybe if you use friskies instead of Fancy Feast it might stop.

Hope I helped :) :) :) :)

Well, your little kitty could have a sped up metabolism, could be diabetic, or could be experiencing chemical/hormonal changes. How old is she and how long has she been eating and using the litter box like this?
With all the concerns over wet food, I rarely feed my cat any. She gets dry Purina One Indoor Cat formula, since it is low in fat and provides all the essential nutrients to keep cats healthy and active. I provide her with about 1 cup a day, which she nearly finishes. Since moist cat foods contain less of the vitamins and nutrients found in dry food, I prefer to make it a treat every once in awhile, instead of a daily meal. Moist food contains high amounts of ash and fat, which is okay for young cats, but as they get older their bodies have a harder time processing it. You can also try mixing the moist food with the dry food, so she eats a bit of both. This is also a good way to wean her off of wet food; slowly keep adding more and more dry food to her moist food, the eventually just give her dry.
If you change her diet and see that she is still using the litter box so often, take her to the vet and consider blood tests to check for diabetes, hormonal imbalances and such.
But most importantly, just pay close attention to her eating/defecating habits and behaviours. If anything changes, consider what may have caused it and speak to a professional. She'll thank you!

This sounds like it could be diabetes, urinary tract infection, or kidney failure. You need to have your cat checked out immediately. It's good that you are providing wet food as well as dry food but I think you need to step up the quality of both to head off further health problems.

In my situation, I have a cat with chornic renal failure. I did lots of research on foods and decided to go against my vet's advice. He wanted me to give her Science Diet k/d but I wasn't comfortable with that. I put her on Wellness dry and wet. Her blood values returned to almost normal but she was still vomiting a bit and still needed steroid shots occasionally. After I couldn't get that in town anymore, I switched to Innova Evo (which is the best dry food on the market) and Merrick Wet food (very high quality). Now all her blood values are normal, she pees a normal amount, eats much less but isn't losing weight because the food is so nutrient dense that she doesn't need as much as she would with the lower quality foods.

Take your cat to the vet and get her checked out. Hopefully it is just a urinary infection. Buy her higher quality food like Innova Evo or Wellness. If you absolutely must feed lower quality, switch to Royal Canin or Nutro. These are more expensive than Fancy Feast but she will eat a whole lot less because there are more nutrients and less fillers. Also the Innova Evo and the Wellness are grain free. Grains are often a source of food allergies for cats. I have one senior cat, one adult cat and one kitten. In the morning I put out one 5.5 ounce can of wet food and 1/2 cup of dry food. This lasts all three of them until the next day.

Good Luck to you.

if she has been fixed, she might be suffering from urinary tract infection, which would send her to the kitty box quite a few times during any 24 hour period.

If you sincerely love your cat, then get her to your vet or any vet to be checked out ASAP, her life could very well depend upon how fast you get her the medical help that she needs.

I have owned cats and many exotic animals most of my life, and if faced with the same set of circumstances that you are facing, I wouldn't hesitate getting my pet to the vet! Can you really afford to wait?

Thank you,

Probably a urinary tract infection (UTI)...she will need to be seen by the vet ASAP.

The vet will also be able to evaluate your cat's weight. If she isn't fat, then you don't need to worry about changing her diet. However, your vet may recommend a temporary or possibly long-term diet change to help with the problems relating to the UTI.

Good luck!

A spoonful of wet, and not the whole can.
Leave the kibbles so that she can munch on
throughout the day.
They are not supposed to be able to finish the dry in one sitting.
My cats get the spoonful treatment. I learned that too much is
often up-chucked.
She may be getting to much soft, that's why she goes to the box so often.
Get your second opinion from the vet.
