I am a renter and I cannot paint or put up anything that will damage the walls, but I do want to cover some of the white walls. I have looked at "Wall Pops" the prepositional squares but they are so expensive so I was hoping someone had some ideas. I head if you soak fabric in water and corn starch it will stick and come off fine, but has anyone tried it?

Actually, if you soak fabric in liquid starch it will adhere to the wall and can be removed without damaging the wall. You have to use fabric that is not heavy weight and smooth out the wrinkles, but it is a lovely effect and inexpensive as well.

Why not just hang up some picture's and when you move you can fill the holes with spackle it's easy and very cheap to do so.. If you don't have spackle you can always use plain white toothpaste to fill in the holes... I've rented for many yrs and most landlords have no problem with picture's as long as you fill the holes when you leave.. That will easlily make your rental a more personal space.. I also used adhesive borders to match my bedding or style.. Some are adhesive and easily remove... Also you can hang anything with "heculies hooks" available at CVS, WALGREENS or Target you can push them into the wall to hang picture's mirrors etc.. when you remove them they leave a pin hole size hole you can fill easily, and you don't need a hammer/nails... Or you can tack fabric up on the walls and pull it taunt, just fill the holes when you take it down.. I would imagine that cornstarch would leave a film/residue on the walls. .That you would have to wash off.. .Filling a tiny tack hole would be much easier and inexpensive.. good luck

There are hooks and picture hangers that won't leave big holes in the walls. Perhaps you can use those to hang pictures, or perhaps to cover your walls with tapestries or drapes. I saw some of those on a number of decorating shows that looked really nice.

What about covering a wall with fabric in a color that coordinates with your furniture? Sheets are a good option for this large a project. They can be stapled or thumb tacked up.
You can gather or pleat them as your style dictates. Good luck..

Add pictures or fabric with these solutions. You can remove them with out ruining the wall or needing any spackle before you move.
