I'm a 28-year-old female and I am about 45 pounds away from my goal weight and I am wondering if too much sodium is keeping me from reaching that weight. What is the recommdend daily amount of sodium for someone who is dieting?

Too much sodium will make your body retain fluid as salt acts as an absorbing agent. So the weight the sodium is preventing you from losing is water weight, not actual fat. The recommended daily intake is no more than 2400 mg, that's about a teaspoon of table salt, however in your case I would suggest you try to cut down on salt as much as you can & i'm not just talking about the salt we add to food ourselves. Check the labels of processed foods as most are loaded with sodium (even if they don't taste like it).

Yes, sodium can increase water retention in the body and thus keep you from losing weight. 1500 milli grams (1.5 grams) is the maximum suggested and you can think of cutting down further.

Substitute regular salt with LoNa (Low Sodium) or increase the potassium intake to counteract the sodium.

Simple:
too much sodium in your body = water retention

Women tend to do water retention more than men.
I do water retention.... when I eat a salty meal, the next day my eyes and my face are all puffy.... it looks like I gain weight overnight, while it's just water retention.
I used to go to restaurants a lot for my old job, and then I stopped and I noticed my arms were much thinner, not from dieting but just because I was cooking at home and I don't put too much salt in my food... restaurants over salt their food.
I was not overweight at all... but water retention makes you look "fuller".

Drink water and eat less salt. You will hydrate your body but not do water retention.
DO DRINK!!!!!!
