Yeah, that's a toughie, and certainly subjective. My vote for OC would go to Laguna Beach, home of the Sawdust Festival and Pageant of the Masters. It's a great beach town, artsy-fartsy and all that, with good places to eat as well.
In LA County, I would give it to Malibu, mainly for the section around Pepperdine.

OOh, most beautiful. They've all become pretty ugly with lots of development.
Orange County is Better for pretty beaches. San Clemente and Oceanside are 2 of the better beach towns. Dana Point is nice sometimes. Try Laguna Nigel, MAYBE. San Juan Capistrano doesn't have much of a beach but the mission district is pretty.
After that, I dunno. Newport is okay but parking is lame. Huntington is okay but parking is still lame and it gets polluted more often than not.
The people on The Strand at Manhattan and Hermosa are better-looking than the people in OC, but they can also be more snobby. The waves at OC are better for surfing, the Avenues and Esplanade at Redondo are better for small children.

Parts of Malibu are nice but other parts not really remarkable. I like Laguna Beach for the most beautiful beach town. If you extend your search area to include San Diego it would be hard to ignore La Jolla.
