Norton should be banned from society :) Uninstall it without thinking much.
I'm using NOD32, which is much better than the rest of the antiviruses that I've used in my life.

First of all, Norton doesn't charge $400 for a subscription. It's usually around $30 or $40 for a year.
As far as un-installing Norton, you can do that.
There's a very good free anti-virus called AVG. And I'm sure there are a host of others out there. Just type "free anti-virus" in any search engine, you'll find many.

Yes dude, uninstall Norton it's really not that good. For a good free antivirus try Avast. Or try to download Bitdefender 2008 from a torrent site.

Don't delete it - uninstall it using the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Once you've uninstalled it, you can install whatever you like.
Keep in mind that most of the decent anti-virus programs will charge you a subscription fee for updates. The free programs are better than nothing, but they're not as good as the paid stuff.

You can delete it. It is very hard to get Norton completely off of your pc. You can go to the Norton site and search for free removal software. After that you can install the new anti-virus.

Do it as fast as possible.....
just by removing norton, you will find ur pc boosted a lot.
well i was tired of norton as it not even detects some of the viruses.
thereafter, i tried macfee.... its good, but the problem was popups..... popup of deleting virus infected coockie and files.... really teasing.......
now i am using trend.... don't mind even to pay for it.... its worth...... before that you can try their trial version www.trendmicro.com
as said by other fellows, that norton doesn't uninstall completely... don't worry, installing trend or macfee will automatically remove norton....(after all they all are enemies of each other)

If you just got your laptop, I hope you got the backup disks. If you did, there should be one from Norton. Use this disk to uninstall it, or else you will not get all of it out of your computer. If you do not have the disk, contact Norton and try to obtain uninstalling help.

Uninstall Norton. It is crap.
Get bitdefender, or even AVG Free edition is decent.
Both are free and there are many more.
