maybe the fact that the pope, leader of the catholic church, had peoples tongues nailed to posts and then burnt them alive might have something to do with it

it's a very simple formula
take a few reformations, have those reformations reformed, all with the basis that "the catholics are wrong"
spread this for a few generations and you have CJ.
I once called CJ on his crap(it was a similar answer he gave now), all i received were tangents and ad hominem attacks.
he said that he could use up the type limit rebutting purgatory, i asked him for "1" point, he responds "it's not in the bible. period" then after accusing the vatican of being the richest country(far from it), and said the pope can't sin if he's infallible(which shows he had no idea what papal infallability meant), then ended the conversation with "blah blah blah, you can't even be faithful to your own words and not message me. catholics are crazy"
the hatred is on a false premise, as for why; there are 30,000 denominations of protestant, the one thing they agree on is "at least the catholics are wrong"

It comes from the pope, who just recently came down on the protestants. The catholic people are Christians just like the rest of us but the popes have not always been good men. I do believe there are catholic people who believe in Jesus and they are born again Christians. These people do not bow down to idols, saints or Mary's statues. God calls that idolatry and He hates it. God says that He is a jealous God and that you do not put anything or anyone before Him. That includes the pope, Mary, saints and priests. The pope may have claimed the exclusive authority of the canonicity of the Bible, until the Dead Sea Scrolls came along. Also Apostle Peter and Apostle Paul lived a long time to collect these gospels and epistles of the New Testament. No man owns the Bible.
God is able to protect His Word from even the Pope who seems to think that he can change it.

Catholicism has a long and infamous history of intolerant brutality. There is much to hate. I could include a long, long list of Catholic atrocities, but that would only serve to inflame everyone's emotions. I appreciate that you are trying to understand why even modern Protestant fundamentalists despise Catholicism. That's a question I would also like to see answered. As for myself, I simply cannot forgive Catholicism's bloody history of profound evil for religious dogma's sake. If the modern officials of the Church would apologize for the errors of the past, it would demonstrate that Catholicism actually cares about the human condition. Absent such an admission of past errors, Catholicism remains a egregious threat to all future human civilization. It is simply a matter of time before the unrepentant Church sees fit to launch yet another wave of religious terror.

You must realize that the birth of Protestantism was caused by anti-Catholicism. That is the purpose of their existence...to protest the Catholic Church. They are named for it. If they didn't protest it...then they'd still be Catholic.
Their views stem from misunderstandings that have become major erroneous beliefs over the centuries. Most of the people who mock and demean the Catholic faith have absolutely NO IDEA what we believe and certainly not why we do what we do. They have been told a lie and they believe it.
I am convinced that if any protestant were to truly research Catholicism, with an open heart and mind, they'd become Catholic. I did.
Catholicism is the first and original Christian church. We are not just another Christian denomination, but the foundation of Christianity.

I don't hate the Catholic church...after all, they do believe in Jesus and we are all on the same team.
I think where I get frustrated is that I feel that what they teach has been changed over the yrs and does not reflect God's Word as it is in the Bible. The Catholic church relies on ritual when God distinctly says that He wants a personal relationship with each and every one of us...not just a bunch of chanting at Him, but for us to really speak and listen to Him.
I also feel that the concept of having to go through a priest to get to God is wrong. All we need is Jesus to do that.
Also, the sexual scandals and the way they were handled deeply hurt the ability to witness about God and his love when those who were suppose to be under His direct authority violated our children.
We, as Christians, have to be careful not to judge one another but I think that we also have the responsibility to call out those who are damaging the Word of God instead of spreading the Gospel.
God bless you and have a great week!

As an atheist I don't have any more problem with catholics than with protestants I just disagree with your faith but I do have a rather strong dislike for the pope. Men have done some pretty crappy things while wearing that silly hat of his.

I've found that people don't actually hate Catholicism, they hate what they THINK Catholicism is. There are a ton of lies about Catholicism bandied about. So people who hate Catholics usually do so out of misinformation and ignorance. If they actually bothered to learn what Catholicism REALLY teaches (salvation in Christ alone, for one), then they wouldn't hate Catholics so much.

People tend to hate the establishment, especially when they classify themselves as a rebel, or "protest-ant."
I do not argue that the Church in the 1500's and 1600's had problems. Those problems, the one Luther argued against, have been corrected. However, since over 10,000 versions of protestantism have been created, none are willing to give up their "if it feels good, do it...there are no hard-and-fast rules" religions.
p.s. In response to your 'p.s.,' people have trouble differentiating the past from the present. People, all people, tend to be stupid that way.

I don't know! I'm not a Catholic but I fail to see why it is too! You believe in God and Jesus, why should you be treated any different than other Christians?!

I don't think that there's a hatred towards Catholicism. I was born and raise a Catholic, but when I was 14 years old my view on Catholicism changed. I wanted more I wanted to have a closer and more intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior. I wanted to seek His face and enjoy His presence, and give Him thanks and praise. And in a catholic church you can not do that. A catholic priest is not even alowed to have a wife or sex....................
