I wouldn't even go near any Scientologist's, and I think by mocking scientology on South Park (Yes, i have seen that episode and I am happy) was a Very Good Idea to have it mocked on Television.

Yes it is, in fact I read in a 1950's document where L. Ron Hubbard said himself that "the best way to make money is to create a new religion"

He made a lot of money reeling people in.

you need to watch the South Park episode that is all about Scientology (yes lots of it is mocking, but they really do tell you what the scientologists believe). you'll never believe how dumb it is.

remember the guy who invented it was a Science Fiction writer. not a scientist.

(he did write good science fiction BTW)

it's a total scam. any religion where you have to pay lots of money JUST to find out what they believe is a scam. and tho some people say it isnt a religion- why then do they call it the CHURCH of scientology?

A quick overview of the scientology belief...according to scientologists, millions of years ago, before the dinosaurs ruled Earth, or Teegeeack, as scientologists call it, an intergalactic war was going on involving a galaxy-wide federation that was being oppressed by an evil titan ruler named Xemu. Fearing overpopulation, Xemu gathered up all the evildoers from his empire and put them into volcanoes set to explode with nuclear bombs at a later time. Now, the spirits, or thetans, of those evil beings were later collected, put in frozen alcohol and implanted into us humans. Wow, sounds kind of like something out of a science fiction novel. Coincidenatly, the founder of scientology was L. Ron Hubbard, a famous science fiction writer. Kind of makes you think.

How can you place merit in this?

Their behavior towards detractors is very wrong.

If you can tell the value of a religion by the behavior of its followers, then Scientology is in big trouble.

Look at the behavior of all the big named followers of Scientology and it is pretty easy to draw the conclusion that it is not very good for society.

Then look into the Lisa McPherson case. There are serious problems there. (see link)

But there are serious problems will all religions and religious beliefs.

I'm not an expert...but I'm still personally convinced that Hubbard just came up with a new sci-fi novel idea...and someone got hold of it and took it too far and made it a religion. But wrong? Well, Jedi is now an accepted religion...is that wrong?

Yes, it is plain arrogance and ignornance for us humans to think that our discoveries can surpass God's religion. But it will take a long time for many of us to realize that. Have you noticed that as our discoveries, inventions, advance in health, etc continue to excel, humanity still gets into more and more trouble? Thats because we are not following the code of life that was set for us by God.

In my best opinion, I am afraid of them and I don't believe that an organisation that makes huge profits out of the "religious" materials it sells should be considered a church. A church is not for profit and I have never seen a holy book protected by copyright.

What kind of religion can you have based on a sci-fi book. As a way of live yes but not a religion. The writer did not die he moved to a higher plane.

The bigger the lie, the more people will believe. More of a Faustian thought.
Satans greatest accomplishment has been to convince people that he doesn't exist. Satan, who deceived God’s immaculate angels in heaven, has greater success with unsuspecting humans.
What makes us think we know it all?

I am sure it has it's good points, but at the same time the literature I have read from people that have left has put a fairly bad image to my mind.
