Where do I start? I sing regularly but I want to get into a studio. My goal is to sing professionally. I do have experience but who and where can I get into a studio?

You can record a basic demo at home, but for a professional demo, you'll want a studio. If you sing, but don't play, you'll need to find some musicians to back you (preferably friends who will do it as a favor rather than pros).

Here on Long Island, NY, you can get studio time for about $60 an hour. That includes a recording engineer, and use of the studio (including any equipment that you don't want to lug like amps, drum kits and pianos). Other locations (other than major cities) will probably be cheaper.

The engineer will mix you live, and will give you as many takes as you want (you're paying for the time). If you want a remix after the fact, that will cost you extra.

You can find ads for recording studios in your local musician/entertainment oriented publications, or on Craig's List.

Good luck!

call up a local radio station that plays similar music to what you sing they may be able to direct you to somneplace in your area
or check the yellow pages

but if you want to make a demo tape you do that before you go into the recording studio so they can decide whether to bring you in in person or not

good luck
