neither can say they are winning or losing. Sales account for a fraction of DVD sales, I think we are looking at the next minidisk though.

last week, blu-ray was outselling HD DVD 3-1, but HD DVD is making a comeback after they had signed the deal with paramount. Blu-ray should just make one more big move and they have basically won. they just haven't made that final move yet.... they're probably going to make it by Christmas, or they might not make a move at all since the blu-ray is still outselling HD DVD. either way, blu-ray should win. I wouldn't start buying movies just yet though. they're still too expensive and you can rent them from blockbuster for the same price as DVDs. about 1700 blockbusters carry blu-ray. only like 300 of those carry HD DVD movies.

Blu Ray has gained the conflict no longer the conflict ! there continues to be thousands and thousands of folk who're content fabric with their known dvd gamers. to no longer point out, there's a gazillion dvd video clips while blu-ray has merely a handful of titles. additionally now with the skill to acquire video clips LEGALLY, that yet yet another point of opposition for blu ray. extreme definition is the wave of the destiny yet merely while is that destiny going to get brighter. As of now, merely a small volume of folk can locate the funds for an hdtv or hd dvd participant and hence, the extreme definition crowd isn't becoming as rapid as supporters could like.

Both camps claim they are winning the war, but both are using different measurements too, so it's hard to say.
I just saw some articles bragging that Blu-Ray just hit 1 million disc sales in the US - but when you consider that even a bombshell of a movie like 'Blades of Fury' sold more than that over the weekend, it's hard to say that EITHER format is really winning anything.

IMO, It will be a long time, if ever, before either goes away. As opposed to one winning I'd look for both of them to be around a while with dual players being the future choice for most people.

As of today. The companies making BDD and HD-DVD are winning. The consumers are losing.
Business as usual.
