This is a situation when you bust them and they pick the ball up but when they drop it it is not by the the original location. According to the rules how are you supposed to play this?

I used to think take it to as close as point as possible that resembles the original location.
Thanks

You and the first answerer are essentially correct. You should drop it as close as possible to the point where the moron picked it up.

If you knew exactly where he picked it up, you would replace it. But since you don't know the exact spot, you have to drop it. (Rule 18-1 Ball at rest moved by outside agency; Rule 20-3c Placing and Replacing, Spot not determinable.)

If he had actually walked off with the ball, you would be allowed to use another ball. You wouldn't have to chase him down to retrieve the original ball.

It's essentially the same situation that occurred a few years back when a seagull picked up a player's ball on the green an dropped it in the lake, except that the seagull has more sense.

go to where you and ur opponent believe is where the ball was and mark that position and take a drop and make sure the ball after the drop is no closer to the hole and not too far away from that point with no penalty

I believe the correct answer is to chase down the other player and bust him in the head with your putter. The other player is them obligated to buy you a new putter ;)
