Perhaps God had to take a Holy Crap, thereby setting a precedent for all humankind to follow? :P

Ha ha ha...furiousblue's sarcasm is amusing.
The christian doctrine teaches that god did this as an example of what humans should do, work 6 days and rest on the sabbath (7th).
Some myths, of which these fallacies derive from, state that it was 6,000 years, others says 6 million.
But the Jewish scribes probably thought it'd make god look super cool if he did it in 6 days.

Most words found in a dictionary have a 1st, 2nd, even 3rd definition.
The first idea coming to mind with the word 'rest' is God was tired and He needed some R&R.
Not so.
He 'rested' in the sense He stopped working regarding the earth.
He did not stop working altogether.
He rested, or came away from His work related to the earth.
Note John 5:17 where-at Jesus said
"My Father keeps working till now ........"

To suggest that God needs to rest is to imply that He has flaws........this is a terrible assumption. Humans have flaws, we have needs, we are imperfect while God is Most Perfect, without flaws, without needs...
Qur'an 2:255 -
"Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursee extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." (This Verse 2:255 is called Ayat-ul-Kursee.)

No, he didn't need to rest, he was strictly setting the precedence for the pattern he expected man to follow. He didn't "rest" in terms relaxing from being tired. he rested in the fact that on that day he did not do additional works. He rested (ceased) from his work, and hallowed the day for man to take a rest from his work and give that day to the service and honor of God.

And why did it take six days to create the heavens and the earth? An omnipotent being should have been able to do it in a nanosecond, shouldn't he? And one would think that in taking so long to do it, he could have at least done a better job. Shoddy workmanship.

My dark friend, if God had a Saturday night like my last Saturday night was, he NEEDED that rest.
