Ok, so my 5 year old started kindergarten today and got a family homework project. We have to make a Me Mobile that will reflect our whole family as seen through the eyes of my kindergartner. First off how do you explain this to a 5 yr. old so that they can come up with ideas? She doesn't even know what a mobile is. Does anyone have any creative ideas? If it helps we are a military family and her dad is deployed to Iraq right now so I am pretty much on my own and I am definetly not the creative type. Please help the exaperated mom.

If you do scrap booking you prolly have all the tools you need right there. If not, try taking her to walmart's scrap book section and ask her what is something about daddy, or mommy, siblings pets etc. My husband is also deployed so maybe suggest a yellow ribbon or flag, something with cammo on it. and you can find pictures of mobiles all over the web. do an image search on google to show her what one is.

Take a coat hanger and tie different lenghs of colored ribbon or yarn to the bottom edge. Ask your little girl what her favorite toy is. Take a picture of it with her holding it and tie the picture to the mobile. do this with her favorite food, say spaghetti and take a snapshot of her eating it, tie it to the mobile, ask her about what her favorite game is and take a picture, get some snaps of her favorite dress, best friend and family members etc. When all the pictures are tied on she will have spent some real quality time with you. And you can send the pictures with some cute things that she said to her dad in Iraq when it comes back home. I promise it will be well worth your time and he will love it. Military too.

First off you need to show her what a mobile is. Show her pictures of different kinds hanging over baby beds. After that have her list the different family members and what they do, their fav color/toy, anything that she identifies the person with. Have her put the pictures together in a way she wants to, with the association near it.Next get some string/yarn and some wire coat hangers. Position the hangers in a maner where they will hold 2-4 pictures each. Have your child then lay the pictures the way s/he wants them. String it together. If you want to go for extra let the child get really creative with glue/glitter/markers/stickers/ect. Have fun with it. And make it a time where you can talk about your husband and what he is doing for our country. Good Luck!

I think a good idea would be pictures of the different family members in the home, this includes any pets.
One definite picture should be of her daddy in uniform. One can be of you, any siblings, and of course her pets. These pictures can be of things you do together. Maybe of you and your child doing something.

I attached a website on how to make different mobiles. They really do not need to know what a mobile is. Once it is completed they will learn what a mobile is. Once your child see the mobile come together she will be very excited.

Hope it helps
