I recently took a friend of mine home in Inglewood, Ca. There was an accident on the corner of two streets blocking the two lanes to go forward, cops everywhere. My friend (an older man that has been driving for longer than I have been alive), said to go around, cause we needed to go straight. Now, I did think about that when he said it;cause there were no flares, no cones, and no police officers signaling traffic, nothing.. so I went around. As soon as I went around, I heard a cop yell at me to pull over, so I did. He comes around the passenger side and yells at me "in what world does it say its okay to drive on the wrong side of the street!?" My friend actually had to wipe the spit off the side of his face. Along with spitting in my friends face, he insulted my intelligence, and yelled at me cause I drove on the wrong side of the street for half a second. Is this going too far?

No the "cop didn't go too far".

Of course he wasn't as professional as he might have been. But plenty of cops, firefighters and paramedics have been struck by dumbasses at accident scenes who are so self-involved as to ignore the chaos at the scene and drive right on through.

As for insulting your intelligence. You didn't show any. You can't even take responsibilty for driving on the wrong side of the road, and have to blame the "older man" for telling you what to do.

Howdy,
It would appear the policeman by all standards of conduct had more than a "bad day." Furthermore, it would appear that he was acting out on some other deep hidden emotions that had absolutely nothing to do with you which in that case would indicate a strong possibility of some type of mental illness. That brings us into another realm. Number one - was he tested for mental stability before hiring on as a policeman? If not, why? What type of background check did this person have before being hired? If a certain town or city does not take the utmost diligence and care in hiring on it's policemen, then it is certainy liable for any wrongdoing as well as the policeman personally. In your case you should have gotten a warning at best or a ticket or license revocation at worst. You should not have been the reciepiant of a "MADMAN" with a firearm at his side going off on you. That is very dangerous for the both of you. For the economic sake of the townspeople, the safety of the public, the safety of the particular officer, et al, you would be advised to write a short and to the point letter to the Town or City Manager with a CC to the Mayor and perhaps the Councilmen describing your experiance. Explain to them that this officer might be better suited in another field of work thereby allieviating him of emotional stress and liabily to the town/city and it would let the town/ciy off the hook in any possible future lawsuits. Most importantly, life safety will be maintained as it should. Good Luck with it. Maybe a life will be saved here.

You know what, you need to stop being a baby because your feelings got hurt. You try to absolve yourself because an older man told you to drive around on the wrong side of the road. (A certain phrase parents say about if someone told you to jump off a cliff comes to mind). You knew there was an accident and all of the emergency vehicles should have clued you in to wait (As you said "cops everywhere").

Did the cop go to far? No. With all of the "me" people like you who don't seem to care about what's going on right in front of them there's no wonder he yelled at you.

If the cops did not direct you to go around then you are in the wrong. Crash scenes are very dangerous for all involved. Disregarding traffic rules just because you are inconvenienced doesn't not make the situation safer.

First experence with the cops i see. The police use to have the slogan "Protect and Serve" now it seams to be "Law Enforcement". He would not have done what he did too an illegal.
