i'm 32 & have been on effexor rr 150 for 4 1/2 yrs. In june of this year went down to 75mg & i'm doing well. What is the next step to getting off this drug & when. I don't have a great Dr. & want to find the best way to do this. Please help!!

You'll need to see your doctor, even if s/he's not a great one. Let him/her help you get weaned off. Effexor is definitely not a drug you can just automatically stop taking. Your doctor will probably take you down to 50 mg then to 25 mg. Then, depending on your sensitivity to the drug, he may have you start taking it every other day until you don't need it any more.

HOWEVER, it is highly important that you not try to do this yourself. You could become severely depressed, or even suicidal. You could also become physically ill and experience nausea and/or vomiting. Plus, your doctor might need to put you onto something else to take the place of the Effexor.

I'd suggest to STILL ask your doctor. Even a poor doctor can still probably get you off the medication, OK. If the doctor is really bad, request another one, so you'll have more faith in your psychiatrist!

i did the same. it is hard. your mind turns to mush for a week. thats how it felt for me. but be prepared to have a total turn around in personality. you mean effexor right? i used effexor XR.

talk 2 ur doc. and slowly decrease the dose so you dont get a big withdrawl!
