There isn't a common choice. We're all different. Some will want cremation, some will want civic burial, some may want a "green" burial. You won't get a single answer on this, as with many things about which people seek to generalize about atheists.

I can't speak for "most atheists", just the one that I am. Personally, I've told my wife I'd like to be buried in a forest with a tree planted on my head. Just to give something back, y'know?

I am sure that there may be. I personally want to be buried next to my father, who died when I was very young. There are many graveyards that are not affiliated with a church.

Um? I wasn't aware that cemetaries were reserved for the religious. They aren't where I live.
However I find burial a bit creepy - I'd rather be cremated and have my ashes scattered somewhere

Most of us prefer cremation I am fairly sure. After the useful bits have been given to science of course.

I can't tell I'm completely an atheist but I'd prefer cremation.

Those that want to be buried often choose the ground.
