ok first off...this is NOT intended to be offensive, i am SERIOUS about this....however, everytime i use the word balls i admit, i giggle....tee hee.

i make these little oreo cookie balls and once they are chilled i need to dip them into melted chocolate.
well, i have been making them and inserting a toothpick into each ball and using that to dip it and then putting them on waxed paper to set.
well, some lady made these originally and she didn't use a toothpick and her balls didn't have a spread out base from the chocolate setting on the waxed paper.

how can i cover the balls in chocolate and get an even coating without any deformities, like a flat side from sitting on the pan.....

this is really bothering me!!!!

thanks!!

Try sticking the other end of the toothpick in styrofoam, so the balls (tee hee) don't touch anything while drying.

How about only dipping them 3/4 of the way....like a chocolate covered strawberry? That way you won't have to worry about even coating and you now have your own version of "The Oreo Cookie Ball".
And you're right...the word ball makes me giggle too. I balled a watermelon this weekend....there was alot of giggling about my bowl of balls.

If they are chilled cold enough they should keep there shape.
To coat have a rack over a jelly roll pan and after dipping in choc. put them on the rack to drip. When finished you can reuse the dripped choc. in the bottom tray. Scrap it up and put it with the choc. to be used another time.

Does it have to be coated in melted chocolate.?? Could you not roll the balls in cocoa powder for a change, you would find that they did not have "deformities" with sitting on the trays or plates then?

When you dip the "balls" (hee, hee).. You should try and let as much excess drip off as possible.. They will not however be perfect and that's ok that shows they are homemade....

Sounds like your doing a good job, with just what your doing. I dont know how you could get them perfect, unless you hold each one till it dries lol. I wouldnt worry with it, after all,its what they taste like, not what they look like.
