I am 20 years old. I've had glasses since i was about 16 or 17. I am seriously looking into Lasik eye surgery because i hate wearing my glasses ( i am near sighted)

Recently it seems as though my eyes have gotten worse. My glasses work fine when i have them on, but i've been noticing that when i dont wear them, its getting harder & harder to see things i once could.

Question is, how old are you supposed to be to get this done? If i get it done now, and say a year or two down the road it starts getting worse again do they do 'free touch ups?'

Also, if anyone knows, how does sitting in front of a computer affect your eyes? I'm a writer, so i spend plenty of time in front of the screen.

Thanks!

well i will tell you that my wife had this done last year. she was 20 years old. i have also had this done(i was 23). we see great and have for the last year even while out in iraq. we are both military and had it done for free. what im really posting about is to tell you the you should look more into P.R.K. than lasik. its was safer, less time, and less problems down the road. as far as where to get it done just start calling around.

There isn't a certain age in order to get the surgey done. Since you're over 18, you should be fine.
The younger you are, the better off you'll be down the road. My doctor told me that it's the older folks who have the surgery done and sometimes need "touch ups".
I had mine done last August and it's the best thing I could have ever done! I have been wearing glasses since I was 4 years old and my vision was 20/400 when I had the surgery. The worse your vision is now, the more room they have to tweak and correct your vision.
No, they don't do free touch-ups. As a general rule, you won't need them.
I always say that you get what you pay for. AVOID the places that charge you $99 per eye or something ridiculous like that. I went through a TLC Laser Center. They have locations all around North America and they are quite reputable. (Tiger Woods got his eyes done through them!!) If you Google it, it'll pull up a site where you can search for a location near you.
Good luck!

There isn't a magical age where Lasik is done. It should be done when you have a prescription doesn't change after two consecutive years. For most people, that would be sometime in their twenties. It should never be done on anyone younger because your vision is still changing, and if they correct it then, the prescription will change and the surgery would be unsuccessful. If you just started to wear glasses in your late teens, your vision can't be that bad unless it is from an injury or disease. Just hold out a little bit more, or maybe try contacts to wear sometimes.
P.S. Touch ups on lasik surgery are not great and sometimes it can be worse. The more cuts you put into your cornea, the worse your cornea becomes.

There is always a chance that you may need a touch up down the road, everyones eyes can change due to different things such as age, hormones, etc. 18 is minimum 21 is better as far as age goes. Some doctors may even do younger than 18. Research different lasik centers in your area and remember not to necessarily go with the cheapest place. Go with technology and doctor reputation.

18 is the magic age so you're fine there. you eyes will get worse with glasses as you'll become more dependent on them as time goes on. once it's done, it's usually good for life. my sil had this done quite a few yrs ago. she had coke bottle glasses and now needs nothing. she uses a computer all day and has no problems. of course each person is different. find a good opthamologist in your area. he can refer you to a good center for this. we have a lrg eye clinic in our area which deals in nothing but diseases of the eye. don't reley on the ads you here on radio and tv. i don't trust those guys. have it vhecked to see if you're a candidate. i can tell you, if you are to farsighted, they probably won't do it as lasix doesn't work on that. that' the reason i couldn't have it done.
good luck

According to the FDA if you're in your early 20's nant or breastfeeding, or you are more likely to have refractive instability (your vision is still likely changing) so you should discuss the possible additional risks with their doctor.
