I had surgery last Monday and i've been on 2 different pain killers since. I've also been taking stool softener daily. i've been eating normally and drinking tons of water. i havent had a bowel movement for over 10 days now!

On Sunday night i started vomiting and had terrible abdoman pain. I decided to go to the ER where they gave me two enimas and tried doing a manual extraction for impaction. None of these worked. They also did an Xray which showed no obstruction.

Since then i've been using suppositories, oral laxitives, stool softeners, and eating a high fiber diet. Also, today after i tried another suppository... there was some red blood. I don't want to damage my intestines anymore! Nothing is working and i'm so uncomfortable!! i've stopped taking all the pain medicine but now my hand that i had the surgery on hurts terrible!! What else can i do?? Please help me feel better. Im starting to get worried...HELP!!!!

Thank you everyone who answered. I ended up going back to the doctor and then back to the ER. The problem isn't completely fixed but they gave me some different medicine to try. I'm hopeful this one will work. Thanks again!

Definately get back to the ER...you need more testing to make sure you don't have an obstruction higher up in your bowel or, worse, that you have ruptured your bowel. Do not let this go untreated! See a doctor ASAP!

Absolutely without a doubt get back to a doctor that actually knows something. By the time you're vomiting and in a lot of pain, there's something very very wrong. You should have been admitted for further testing if none of the ER methods worked. Run, don't walk, to a better hospital where they know how to care for their patients.

Maybe you should take a mineral oil enema. I helps to lubricate things but you need to hold it for at least an hour or so. Stay away from those disposable enemas, you need a much larger volume around a quart or two of plain warm water.

I'm so sorry you feel so badly.... Well, this might work.. Drink a strong cup of coffee to get the bowels working. This usually works for me.. Also, if you can try some COLACE it's non perscription or a generic version... Ask your pharmasist they will know... I used the generic version to "get things moving" it works really well w/o all the trauma to the stomach... Just keep drinking plenty of water.. Also, a bit of movement if you can stand it ... Just walking around can help after the cup of coffee.. good luck

YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO THE ER ASAP!!!!!! An xray will not always show obstruction.

Why wouldn't you contact your doctor about this, especially since you are vomiting? It makes no sense for you to ask strangers for help with something this serious--no sense at all.
