Goddess the Grammar: I think too that the French of Quebec isn't better than in France but we pronounce correctly the words. I don't say: ''La Fronce''.

@ Lprod: I don't how do you understand the French people. That's normal, in France they use a lot a English words. it's a little bit difficult to listen us, because we talk usually with the contracted form in French. ex: ''chu parti...'' (je suis parti)''

Miss Alexis:

You obviously don't know the history of the French Language. Quebec French is directly derived from the French spoken by the French royal family at the time of Louis XIV as well as shaped by the FRENCH settlers that came to colonize New France.

Moreover, you can't just give credit to France only for the French Language; Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg speak it too with little differences. You should rather refer to it as European French.

Besides, you need to make a difference between Standard Quebec French, which is practically the same as European French and Quebec SLANG (called the joual here), which is almost a dialect in itself, just be careful when you make judgements like that.

I don't actually consider French to be 'the most beautiful' language.

I hail from West-Flanders. That is the coastal province of Belgium, bordering France, thus, we learn french at a young age. Quebec, although they speak french, they can't write it. Really. It is one of those languages that's known spoken, but not written.

Like 'my' westflemish.

It is a germanic language, with celtic traces (i think, i am not a linguist).

It is Dutch, but it is very unintelligible to those that are not from my province. It has a lot of French loanwords in it, often twisted with other sounds in it. It also has a lot of English in it, mainly in sentence forming and such. Yet, it is not written (officially). If you like hearing french, you should check this out, it is west-flemish. It is also nice if you know some dutch, because it is so apart from dutch that it should be considered a language on it's own but it isn't.

I can speak a (very) little French.
I'd say it's a matter of opinion that it's the "most beautiful language" though.

To Miss Alexis:
Of course "American English" is real English!!! It's just a different dialect.
It's really no different from travelling within England from London to Birmingham and seeing how the language changes even in that small a distance.

I don't find Quebec French to be the most beautiful language (or the most beautiful accent), but, Uh, yeah, it is French and it is written.
Yes I speak French, and yes I'm from Quebec (but an anglo).

I think what Miss Alexi is meaning is that french spoken in North America is not the same as the french spoken in France, she is right.

We can however say the same thing for American english vs Britain English.

It's not more beautiful than Russian. I lived in Montreal quite a while, and yes French is quite nice.

I guess it's in the ear of the beholder. My favorite is to listen to Irish women (men, too, but mostly women). To me, that's the most beautiful.

The language is beautiful but the people are obnoxious. They come down to Maine in the summer and are absolute *******.
