taps the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screams bloody murder, loses control of the cab, and swerves onto the sidewalk before stopping just inches from a lamppost.

After checking to make sure the passenger is OK, the driver says "I'm sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me!"

"Sorry. I didn't realize a simple tap on the shoulder would freak you out so much," the passenger says.

"It's not your fault," replies the cabbie.

"Today is my first day on the job after 25 years of driving a hearse"

The man who gets turned away should call the cab company and complain- be sure to give them the number of the cab. Many companies have a policy that requires drivers to accept dogs accompanying individuals who are handicapped (seeing eye dogs, hearing dogs, dogs for seizure control, etc.) Also, in some cities, this is a violation of city regulations for cab drivers, and the driver could lose his license to operate a cab. If someone chooses not to be around dogs for religious reasons, that's fine. (I have Muslim friends who adopted a dog from the shelter, so this is not a universal belief among Muslims). It's okay with me if they just don't like dogs and don't want to be around them. However, if that's the case then they must choose work that does not involve being around dogs, and being a taxi driver includes picking up people with seeing eye dogs.
