Okay - Long story short, when I was 18, I started dating a guy from Guatemala. I got pregnant and had a child. He's ALWAYS been involved with my son, has ALWAYS paid child support, and is an all around great guy.
Anyway- Last December, He was sent back to Guatemala (He was here legally, and I'm not entirely sure why he was sent back) But he was, I am assuming it has something to do with him getting into some trouble last year, Anyway, I am having a hard time explaining to my 9 year old why his daddy is gone, and also why he can't go to Guatemala to visit him, I was wondering if maybe someone had some advice on how to explain this difficult yet very sensitive situation to my son?

Sad. He's obviously missing him a lot. Are you still in touch with the father? If so, can't your son and his dad correspond with eachother? A letter from his dad would be very re-assuring for the boy and an occasional phonecall would be good too if that's possible. You should tell your son the truth. His father HAD to go back to Guatemala and can't come back. It wasn't because he didn't love his son. It was the Government. The boy will worry that it might be his fault he went away or that his father doesn't care for him. You must reassure him and be consistent - reassure him about it often and I'm sure his father will reassure him too. If it's in a letter the boy can keep it to read whenever he wants and reinforce the message. You can tell him that when he grows up, he can earn money and save up enough to go and visit his father in Guatemala so he will see him again eventually even though it may be many years ahead.

Give him the Life Cycle story of his two worlds. Then identify the good and bad things. Then apply the Yes & No senerio.
