Is this legal in Georgia? This is where they had it done. My daughter is living with me now in Texas. Would I need to contact Georgia government or Texas for age requirements regarding this. This is really upsetting!! My child is ONLY 14!! Anyone gone through similar events?

The tattoo is a butterfly about 3 inches across and 3 inches down, located just under her bikini line.

That is awful an true professional artist would never tattoo anyone so young and for your wife to allow it. It is not legal in any state to tattoo anyone under the age of 18 even with parental consent. My husband is a tattoo artist and is appalled when I read to him to him.
16-5-71 G *** CODE SECTION *** 10/15/99 16-5-71. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to tattoo the body of any person under the age of 18, except that a physician or osteopath licensed under Chapter 34 of Title 43, or a technician acting under the direct supervision of such licensed physician or osteopath, and in compliance with Chapter 9 of Title 31 shall be authorized to mark or color the skin of any person under the age of 18 by pricking in coloring matter or by producing scars for medical or cosmetic purposes. (b) Any person violating the provisions of subsection (a) of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Your daughter is 14 and if she made the decision that she wanted the tattoo and her mother consented then there is little you can do about it.
If her boyfriend is a legit tattoo artist and everything was done in a clean and sterile environment then they did not really do anything to get in trouble for.
As the child of a divorced couple I would like to advise you that you calmly sit down with her mother and talk to her about how you disapprove of the tattoo and set an age limit that you both can agree to before she gets anymore tattoos. Maybe 16 would be a better age.
If you and your child's mother can not be mature about this and come to an agreement, every time you fight and argue with her is putting a strain on your daughter. I'm not saying you should not stand up for how you feel about this, just that you need to step up to the plate and be the responsible one. It doesn't sound like her mother is very willing to do it.
Talk to your daughter about how you feel about tattoos. Don't try to throw her mother under the train, it will just make your daughter feel defensive. Talk to her calmly about what the two of you can agree that a proper age for tattooing would be.

What does your daughter think about it? If she didn't want it done then I reckon it's abuse by the boyfriend. If she did and begged her mother to let her have it done and her mother capitulated and said it was OK, then you have to take it up with her mother. Stupid idea to get a tattoo at that age. Mother and boyfriend should both have refused. Anyway, I hope it's not a large one & is in a place she can cover it up. She'll regret it in the long run when it starts to fade and look horrible. Boyfriend should pay to have it removed at the end of the day. Less costly than a lawsuit.

I'm sorry. But as long as your 14-year-old had the permission of her mom...then there's no reason she couldn't get that tattoo. It doesn't even matter if you have custody and she doesn't. When a child goes into a tattoo parlor with an adult, that adult just has to sign a form saying that it's okay. Or the girl could have easily gone to the parlor, gotten the form, gone home to have her mom sign it, and went back the next day to get her tattoo.

I am sorry to hear about that! The law use to be if the daughter wanted a tattoo and was under aged then she could have a legal guardian sign for her to get a tattoo.
Good Luck!

In Alabama you have to have a parent sign for you if you are under 18. I'm not sure since her mom was there that you can do anything , but I would sure find out. She needs to have her parental rights terminated. You need to tell her that she is a parent for a reason - 14 year olds can't foresee the consequences of such actions - that's her job!! I personally would be FURIOUS!

I feel for you buddy. The "ex" alway gets the "Badboy" boyfriend when a decent guy is stiffed with unrealistic child support payments.
Most are unaware its these "boyfriends" that end up making 95% of male the statistics when all types of child abuse are studied.
Your very best option is a simple phone call to a family lawyer who will give you a consultation at no charge. The purpose to this call is to see if:
A. Is there any illegal behavior.
B. If so, can you press charges to prevent this "abuse" from happening in the future.

If her mom was there and gave consent it's legal. Sounds like your exwife is a wee bit on the psycho side and isn't a very responsible mother either. I'd keep your daughter away.
