I have a criminal history from back in the day. I have 4 misdemeanors, and 3 minor non traffic charges, but it seems everytime, i start working w/ a recruiter for the Army or National Guard, they take their time w/ me. It seems like they dont put all their effort in me. I went to a Army recruiter about a month ago, and gave him my paperwork, and he sd, "dont worry, I wont dick u around like other recruiters". He sd that he had gotten other people in witth more serious stuff, but I have not heard from him in a month, and when I call him, he says, "dont worry, I will call u" By the way the misdemeanors were for 6th Degree Petty larceny, and theft under $300, and a DUI.

Have you done everything he has asked you to do? I'm sure you would have needed some letter of References and letters of remorse for each offense. Have you signed the papers for them to get your law record from the courthouse?

If you are not bringing him what he has asked, why should he jump through hoops.

If you have given him everything, then chances are, he feels that he probably will not be able to get a waver for you.

Frankly, You are the one that screwed up! There are many civilian companies out there that would turn you away too. What makes you think the Army owes you anything?

I retired from the Air Force and spent 10 years as a recruiter. Knowing the regulations the Air Force has, I would have sent you on your way without giving you a chance for a waiver as it would have been shot down with the first review.

yes and no, first off it depends what career choice you decide to take in the army, if you choose mp there is no way the same with you if you choose military intelligence or the medical career or if you choose 88M which is the military form of truck driver. your recruiter should pull your criminal history and have a background check done and if they dont show anything you will then go to meps which is the military entrance processing station and they will then check your background check based on your mos or job. now if your duis were in different states they may not find them and you can slip by but however if your recruiters were doing there jobs right the military has a thing called waivers where depending on your duty station you can talk to the commanding officer of the base you are at can decide if they will take you or not and usually they will work with you. most recruiters see the duis and all they see is a lot of paperwork and instead of putting in the effort they give up

I am active duty in the National Guard, like the recruiters, but work at the State Headquarters processing enlistment packets. I have seen people, especially nowadays, get in with very questionable pasts. The problem is it takes a "moral waiver" to process your enlistment. A moral waiver is something that the General at your particular state's HQ has to sign off on, or someone who is authorized to sign for him. In our state we have a Colonel who may authorize a moral waiver.
I have seen some of these take over a month to do, for one reason or another. Your chances are really good though, because a few years ago only 4% of enlistments army wide had moral waivers. In 2006 that number climbed to 11%, so they are waivering a lot of stuff now to get people in. You will have a better chance with the Army National Guard, they are more likely to provide those waivers.

Congratulations! You are what is known as a "fall back."

A recruiter is required to get a certain number of people each month. They are also suppose to be of a certain "quality."

You are not of the quality they want but they could get you in if they worked at it. Rather than busting their nuts trying to get a borderline character like you in, they go with the ones that are easy to process. If they meet their goal each month, they just bump the "fall backs" back another month.

If for some reason it looks like they are not going to meet their quota, they pull out their "fall back" file and see which if any they can process and get in to meet the quota.

They do not really want you but if they get desperate, they will process your paperwork. You are better than nothing, but not someone they really want.

If you keep bugging them, they will just get pissed off at you and will never process the paper work. Get a job, shut up and wait. That is all you can hope for.

The reason he may have gotten "other people in with more serious stuff" before you was because they submitted their paper work earlier, and had already gotten their moral waivers approved. Since the paperwork has to outside the recruiting station/battalion, it takes a little more time to get back. Take a chill pill, and wait. Trust me, he'll want to get you signed up as soon as he can so he can meet his quota.

I tell you man, that is a whole lot of paper work to track down and to do. The recruiter has to visit the county jails and get a background check done. If you stuff happened in different counties, he has to have another recruiter run the check or he has to. On top of that you are not the only other person he is trying to put in the Army.

If you could just phrase your question in BASIC English then somebody might understand what you are talking about.

You are worried that as a petty criminal the Army doesn't bend over backwards to take care of you first, well you should have thought about that before you got into trouble.

You stole, and you were driving while drunk, not the type of "goof off" I would want in my squad. You are NOT dependable or trustworthy.

Face it you are not a 'high quality applicant' and the recruiter is not going to be as interested in you as somebody with a clean background.

Besides you already have been turned down for enlistment at least once.

Has it ever occurred to you that you are simply not the type of person the military needs?

The military does not like to take in people who have been a problem in the past. sounds like you have had plenty problems. I dont think the you and the military are a good fit. Move on and leave the recruiters alone. They are being nice to you but its time to realize that your past has screwed up your future. Like I said, sorry, but you dont fit in.

The waivers he must get for you take time. Keep calling him to make sure that he is still on the ball. It is really not that uncommon for waivers to come in for someone in your position. Ask for meeting with him and be completly honest and then see where you stand. Trust me, he wants to put you in the army.
