A couple of weeks ago I woke up with some pretty severe back pain. I couldn't not trace it to once single event. But it was my lower back and it basically hurt with every move. Now the pain has subsided to just when I pick my son up or any bending motion or sitting up. But now the pain has gone down to my buttocks, specifically my left side. It feels almost like a "charly-horse." Is this muscle strain? Is there any way to treat this, it's been a couple of weeks... do I seek outside help at this point, doctor, chiropractor?

Just in the past 2 days or so the pain has also begun in my left hip and my left thigh. There's a dull ache when not in motion but once I begin movement the pain becomes sharper.

You probably have sciatica, it starts in your lower back and just as you explained it can radiate down your leg, thigh, calf, buttocks. It does feel like a charlie horse. All you do is take it easy, use some icy hot on your lower back it really helps, ice packs also help. The bad news is it tends to go away in its own time. It also can come on at any time, I can feel when mine is about to go out and will try to control my movements. Bend with your knees, do not lift, and find a chair that will make you sit completely straight up, with really good posture, until the pain calms down some. You can also take aspirin or tylenol, whatever you prefer for the inflammation to subside. Hope you feel better soon.

First of all don't lift or pick up anything heavy - even your son. Your back pain has moved down to your buttocks and thighs. That could indicate an inflamed sciatic nerve or the beginning of a slipped disc. Go and see a Dr at once. This is not something to think about - seek medical help before it gets worse. And no UTI has ever caused pain in my buttocks or thighs and I had that a couple of times.

Normally I would say see a chiropractor, but my husband had pain just like yours a few years ago and it turned out to be a kidney infection. the pain in your buttocks and down your left side is a pretty good indicator that it is a severe urinary tract infection or kidney infection. It will feel just like a pulled muscle in the lower back but will start moving lower, just as you have described. If you have any fever or vomiting please go to the ER right away. I would def. make an appt with your GP to have that area tested b/f you start having your back looked at. It could be that your spine is out of alignment or a strained muscle, but the charley horse feeling makes it sound like kidney issues, not spine issues.

I'm a female chiropractic, this is a common problem i see in practice everyday. We have a very high success rate, with these type of problems. I strongly recommend that you contact your local female chiropractor. If you don't have insurance find a chiropractor who doesn't charge for exam or x-rays (should be very easy to find) it should only take a few visits. You will be so happy you called you'll wish you called sooner.

don't waste your time with a chiropractor, your back will feel good while your there but as soon as you get 1/2 way home your pain will come back.Physical Therapy is the best option for you.here is a book you Can get some great exercises from.http://www.amazon.com/Treat-Your-Back-Robin-McKenzie/dp/0958269238/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8163448-7733438?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188912908&sr=1-1
i suffered from lower back pain for 10 yrs and opted for surgery.if you see your doctor he will just get you into PT .unless you have numbness they wont do an MRI.and since your not close to considering surgery an MRI would be a waste.

this could be muscle strain. The best medical help you can get is with a chiropractor because they specialize in back and spinal problems. I recommend you see one as soon as possible. I've enclosed a link where you can find A qualified doctor in your area.
