Recently, i've been very unhappy in my job it's getting to the stage where I can't wait to go home and then am dreading having to go back to work the next day, Sunday's is a nightmare because i'm constantly thinking, great I have to work tomorrow. When I wake up in the morning, I really just want to stay in bed, i've lost all motivation and have been really down over it. I've been working here for a year and have been applying for jobs but getting no where. This is my first job since leaving uni and I would never quit a job without having another, so i'm not lazy just really fed up, I get treated like a slave and don't get any credit for it. I really would like a job related to my degree, which is in Marketing but not sales, i'm working in shipping at the moment but feel like i'm wasting my life. I'm really stuck as to what to do next? I've tried agencies with no luck and applied on my own for jobs but there just isn't much out there at the moment and no one will give me a chance!

(Comorts s..."I feel your pain' I doubt it lol) Someone said the right thing: you shouldn't be treated like a slave...but having said that, you can get ill in a very negative environment....have you got a mortgage? could you live on part-time income plus doing voluntary work? ..i.e., get out, do anything part-time, regroup and look for a better job.

I'm sorry, that cannot be nice. But I would really think about trying to improve your current job and at the same time looking for another one.

You say you are treated like a slave, you need to talk to your Boss about this because nobody should be treated like a slave.

Are you looking in one single line of work? If so open your eyes to the bigger world and consider doing other jobs. The pay might not be as good but if you are happier then nothing else matters.

If you are in a position to quit and you can manage financially without work for the time being, then do so. Otherwise you'll have to stick things out until something better comes a long or lie to work and tell them you would like a week off for a wedding. In that week you can search for a new job properly, physically and make this your priority.

I do hope things get better, best wishes and take care!

first off, you say you hate it and you don't specify why? What ever the reason you need to either tell your boss that the environment is lacking in motivation... If it is a co worker get real, tell them off and move on...

If you really need the job to pay bills then keep it and keep working on getting another job... Have you tried any of your networking contacts for a job?

Good luck

Is there another position within the company you currently work for that you might want to try or under a different boss? Maybe you could meet with your slave driving boss and politely air out your concerns about your current job and come to some sort of agreement? Also, some jobs offer employee "mental health" benefits where you could see a therapist to talk out your feelings...It's usually free and could help you sort out why you hate your job and possibly come up with a strategy to improve yourself/job performance + it gets you out of work ! Good luck

Have you thought of trying the voluntary (or third) sector? Look in the Guardian on Wednesdays, also online, and in Third Sector Magazine which is available online.
We have just taken on a marketing officer from the corporate sector and she really enjoys the change.
