That would probably be how we end up with things like

John David Smith II

After II or Junior, it's III, IV, V, etc. regardless whether the boy is named after his father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, etc...

Those bluebloods down in Charleston SC will resurrect those names after generations--it does not have to be a father/son or grandfather/grandson thing. I know an uncle/nephew jr./III, and the uncle even had a son--but he didn't name him III. So his brother named his kid III....

In my family tree there are a lot of naming for people two generations or more back and it is just done without the numbering. II and III is for royalty and exact copying of full name and normally only when father and grandfather are both named same. I have seen, in other cases, where first rename is Jr. until he names his son John D. Rockefeller III then father starts using II instead of Junior.

None, they just have the same name.

A bigger predicament, the next sons were also named after the grandfather. Then, there are other names, there are books and websites that lists names. But if you can not do away with the grandfather's name even for the next sons - simply add a second or third name, but for sure it will cumbersome for a schooling kid.

the second I am guess even if your are saying that the son took his father's name. Then the son's of the son's father would be the second, even if you are claiming it came from the grandfather instead of the son. I'm confused! lol!

If dad is a Jr, son would be a third(III) if it i like my boyfriends family there generations of "mikes" but they all have different middle names. If your taking grandpas name but its not your husband I would say your son will be a Jr.

in case you do call your son Frank Joseph Miller, then he would be Frank Joseph Miller III (the third). you are the 2d (for this reason, the junior on your call) and your dad replaced into the 1st. in case you supply him a clean center call, he'd be the 1st of that distinctive call. and because your super grandfather and grandfather had distinctive center names, you're no longer technically the 4th. It must be the comparable finished call occurring by means of the generations...

Doesn't it become the third?
Michael Kyle III.

Technically Jr. would be II (second), and can be called either second or Junior.

I guess that it's really up to the parents.

If he's only named after grampa and not dad then he's only himself no 2nd or 3rd behind it. If dad has the same name too then your son would be the 3rd.
