yeah i remember when i had to get my shots for that too, not too long ago... i think a local anesthetic is going too far... a shot isn't that bad. you don't feel it until after the nurse is done really... the tetanus isn't bad. the hepatitis B shots hurt a little more but it won't last long. you can do it... the only thing that will be left is a "numb" arm and a bruise.

and if you can't stand the "blind" nurses at your school, go to a public health institution and ask them if they can do it. i got all of my shots at a public health place.

so my advice is to shut your eyes, don't look, and stick it out for a few seconds.... you'll be fine, and YOU CAN DO IT! =]

I was like that as a very young child, but by the time I was 12, and had suffered greatly with an infection, strep throat, I begged my mom to take me for an antibiotic injection. She couldn't believe it. But I felt so bad with fever, and pain. I figured what is a little stick and getting well, compared to being so sick. The alternative is not what you want, in possibly contracting lock jaw, or hepatitis. Then it would be too late, and you will regret not taking a little stick. It's over in a heart beat. Just keep telling yourself, it's only for a few secs, in order for me to remain healthy. Eventually you will see that it's not as big of a deal as you make it out to be. Other than that, I don't know of any other way. Just build yourself up, tell yourself, I CAN DO IT! I have faith in you. I remember my mother hemorrhaged behind her eyes, due to a disease. She had to have injections in her eyes, and she could feel it believe me. BUT there was a little boy under 10 yrs that had to have the same thing done. She told herself, if that little guy can go through this, (which he did), I surely can as well. What you are talking about is either an injection in the arm, or hip, which to me is much better than thinking about someone having to go through what my mother went through. I got confidence in you. Just look the other way while they are giving the injection, count to 10 if you need to. It will be over before you are finished. Now go git er done! :)

Don't worry, the freakiest thing is seeing the needle go in, but not feeling anything. I dont think there is anyway to have it otherwise, since the mixture has to be put into the blood stream. Having tetanus or Hep B would be much worse then the needle. Don't take the risk.

Some vaccines have a way to avoid the painfull needles, you can ask your doctor about it. They might have some that you can swallow.
