GEORGE BUSH - Quoted this::
" No I don't know that Atheist should be considered citizens , nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation Under god."

36 million American do not believe in GOD ( this number also include agnostic - Barna research 2004 )

In a study by the University of Minnesota , more then 2000 people were asked which of their fellow citizen lacked the proper " Vision of The American Society ".............More then blacks , gays , immigrants, Lesbians or even Muslims......Atheist are viewed as the least American

Christians make of 75% of the United States population and Christians make up 75% of the prison population BUT Atheist make up 10% of the United States population and Atheist makes of only 0.2% of the prison population ( federal Bureau of Prison 1997 )

Which god? I thought the US Constitution guaranteed freedom of religion. This means that the Judeo-Christian god, Allah, Vishnu, or Odin should be able to be worshipped equally. Surely then a professed lack of religion is also guaranteed to be protected. The architects of the US ensured that religious persecution would not occur under the terms of the Constitution. Basically, because they themselves had been the targets of just such persecution. They may have been Christian, but they in no way intended the US to be a Christian nation - just a nation of Christians. There is a difference.

As for the unpatriotic aspect. There's another quote from Bush that sums this up: "Those who are not with us, are against us". Anyone disagreeing with the position of George Bush Jr. is against him and, because he's the president, therefore against America and unpatriotic. It's worrying that the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet thinks in these simplistic black and white terms.

Wrong again. Doesn't everyone love it when Atheists play with numbers. Declared Atheists amount to about 5% or less. The rest DECLINE TO STATE, which is an American right that says WHAT I AM IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

See, unlike Atheists, they don't subscribe to an AVOWED belief system.

And if you look closely a large portion, a very large portion of the prison population is the NAtion of ISlam, black converts like Malcom X.

That's where Malcom X got his first training.

I personally say Bush is only pandering. I'd rather he'd take the view of Robert Heinline. Only Verterans of the Armed Forces should be awarded citizenship.

The right to vote should come from enlistment in some branch of the Armed Services, be it reserves, Coast Guard, National Guard.

Everyone else should not be allowed to vote as THEY HAVE NO LAID THEIR LIVES ON THE GROUND for the country.

They have NOT TAKEN personal responsiblity for the national interest.

This will probably come off a little something:) I apologize if it does but here goes anyway. How many of the self proclaimed athiest and agnostics celebrate Christmas or Easter? How many at one time or another use Gods name in one manner or another? I am a Christian and I too apologize for Bush's Judgmental use of the statement. These United States were founded on two things. Freedom and IF you study your History completely the founding Father established them on the foundation of God. So actually Bush isn't putting God in He is putting Him BACK in. although he had no right to demean or lessen any human belief or right to believe.

Bush has said a lot of things like that, not just about Atheists, but about Pagans and other Non-Mainstream religions. He's out for the Votes and because Christianity is the majority, he's going to cater to them.

Another example of how he handles things is when Pagans/Wiccans tried to get the Pentacle on Veterans tombstones... Bush stated he didn't think Wicca was a religion.......... Yet, after all was said and done and Bush and the White House held a dinner, he conveniently forgot to invite the women who fought to have that put on her husbands tombstone. (Funny, he remembered to invite the fallen soldiers parents, but not his wife). Bush called the woman and stated he would Never treat someone like that because of their religion and that he respected Wicca as a legitimate religion.

I don't believe even a 1/4 of what comes out of that man's mouth. I have yet to find anything that he has said where he didn't contradict it later. The propaganda that gets spread by Mainstream Organizations/Religions is what keeps ideas such as "Atheists are untrustworthy" without any evidence to back it up.... They certainly can't complain when Non-Christians generalize them.

Yes but 400 million or so do believe so the odds are much more in favor for the believers.Being an atheist just means "non-believer" that is free will at hand not everyone can see eye to eye on anything.

Everyone knows that Bush is not the sharpest tack in the tool box. Unfortunately, he happens to be the leader of the free world and that's a scary situation!

A close-minded Christian sums it up nicely. Bush is the kind of person that wants to turn this country into a Theocracy

Our current President has said many ignorant things.

It was his Daddy, however, that said this particular ignorant thing.

Let's not accuse the wrong party.

Abraham Lincoln was an atheist.
