My Mom just picked up an abandoned stray kitten about 4 weeks old. She placed it in the litter box and scratched at the litter with her finger in front of the kitten. The kitten ended up using the litter. My mother would put her in the box after she ate or if she seemed to be "fussy". Within 3 days she was using the box every time. Good luck.

At 1 month they should be just about ready to start. Most likely it will happen automatically. You just need to put them in the litter box and observe. If they jump out, then dig in the litter with your own hands. The kitten will most probably be interested and perhaps start getting the idea. Please don't be despondant if they don't get the hang of it right away. They are still really really small. But basically its instinct so you don't really have to worry too much.

They are old enough to start using a litter box, but mommy cat will show/teach them how. If mommy is not around or if mommy is not in the mood to show them, you will need to put them in the litter box one time and let them sniff around. This way they will know what is in the box and there instinct should let them know what to do. It is important not to force them to use it, by making them stay there and/or making them scratch around. The kitties natural instincts will kick in and they will start to use it on there own. If they don't you will need to watch for signs of needing to go, like sniffing around in one corner, then put kitty in the litter box. Again don't make them stay, just be patient and keep trying. Once they go praise them! Kitties are smart, it should kick in fast what a litter box is for.

Keep the litter box far away from there food, they don't like to eat and poop in the same area. Keep the kitties confined to a small area (like a bathroom or laundry room) until they begin to use the litter box, then you can start giving them a little more freedom and places to roam as they continue to use the litter box regularly.

Oh! Keep the litter box clean! Some cats (like mine) won't use the litter box unless it is cleaned daily. :)

They are old enough now to learn. All you have to do is put them in the litter box one at a time and take one of their paws and make them dig. The same motion any cat would use when they use the box. Most generally they get the idea right away.

When we had our kittens, when they were able to walk and get around we put a little cardboard box with a little bit of litter in it. (Make sure the box is low enough so they can climb in and out) When we were home and we saw them getting ready to go the bathroom we put them in the box so they know that that's where they were suppose to go. After awhile they go used to it and did it on their own.

my kitten automatically went to his litter box. He was 6 weeks old when we got him. They have the instinct to dig and bury their feces and urine, so if you put the litter box out in an area where they will be alot they will use it. If they don't recognise it as somewhere they can go to the toilet and go somewhere else, if you catch them, straight away take them to the litter box and show them. Put the feces in the litter box. Hope that helps a bit.

Hi.. you can get one of those disposable baking pans (one without real high sides such as a baking sheet at first, then graduate to a cake pan type). That's what i used, and the babies could get in and out easily... they can be a little messy so you might want to put newspaper under it...

I'd say you could try putting them in the litter once in a while, to see if they will start using it on their own? They have a pretty good instinct about these things...

Um, they might decide to play in it too... mine tended to wrestle in there once in a while at first...
(tee hee)

Good luck with your kittens... ! I bet they are just adorable!

take care, too

kittens will automatically learn to use litter box, once seperated from their mother's milk, and starting to eat foods, besides d mother's milk.but,BEWARE!!some kittens get curious and they tend to eat d litter send.stay alert n always tell them not to do so.but don't shout to them, sometimes it will make them too scared to enter d liiter box.

From the first few months you should get them used to the litter.

Eve if they don't seem ready, let them get the feel of it - you'll notice that their digging instinct comes out soon after.

They're much easier to train that dogs - you should do good.
