:) Sorry I'm so late to the party. I meant to answer this a few hours ago, but I got busy at work...

1) All the "good old boys" at my work, in other words management, all go to the same church. They also drink, do drugs and fornicate with hookers together. Will I ever achieve a management position here? I seriously doubt it. It's been a long time since I've even gotten a review or a raise, and I'm an exemplary employee (except for the internet usage :)

2) When I WAS a Christian, all the fundies at my church would pick out certain members and give them endless **** for either being antisocial or idiosyncratic in any way. Even when those people would clearly demonstrate their displeasure at the negative attention. And we're not just talking about "constructive criticism," or helpful advice, we're talking about laughing, ridicule, name-calling...even physical violence ("all in good fun," mind you). I was, obviously, one of those people. Meeting these people several years later as an atheist, they naturally put on their smiley faces and "how do you dos?"

3) I've given a lot of money to my church only to have them ask for more because they're running out of money for their new construction project. I can't tell you how many tithe sermons I've sat through. At LEAST 15.

4) A certain Christian in my family on my brother-in-law's side often ridicules others for not going to church enough, warns them about Hell, generally creates a lot of conflict and grief in the family and once told my little brother, (who's an atheist) that God was going to take away his 2-year-old son to prove to him that "He" existed. How thoughtful of her. :) In her defense, though, she was mightily drunk at the time.

Now, this isn't exactly a GREAT example of the troubles of an American atheist. I'm not politically active, I'm not in a position to be concerned about the way my community is run, my life isn't any more difficult due to gentle evangelical efforts (except for the extreme annoyance, of course) and I'm not gay among many other things. But those that are politically active, those that have to deal with their community, those mentally ill people otherwise known as homosexuals (sarcasm), people dying of curable diseases; these are the people that must deal with self-righteous, idealistic types. These are the people for which Christian fundamentalists are more than an extreme nuisance. Just to bring up a couple of hot issues: gay marriage; stem-cell research (remember? curable diseases?); prayer in public schools; etc...

Another thing: how much time has been wasted by our government on superfluous, religion-based issues when there were more important things to deal with? It sure is easier to get away with passing a little law here and there that is going to fill up your pocket at the small expense of the general public's rights when everybody is distracted with abortion. How ****ing stupid. Of course, I'm not getting into that topic here. :)

One more thing to add (and yes, I do realize I've strayed from describing things that have personally effected ME). I've seen too many friend's lives go the wrong way because they expected God to help them. IOW, they refused to face issues because they thought if they were good, faithful Christians, God would help. And he didn't, of course. I even had (past-tense) a friend who killed himself because of this. I guess God didn't want him in his Kingdom? Which is weird, because he was one of the BEST people I knew, even considering the fact that he was raised a devout Christian. I sure do miss him, but I guess he's in Hell now, right?

Thanks for the great question!

Hmmmm...Now I feel another question of my own coming on. :)

No effect would be there on US citizen . China's historic past tells that it is not an aggressive united states . on the main it is going to attempt to invade the incredibly some area of India , Nepal , Bhutan & south east Asian international locations. it is going to impose imperialistic commerce on those international locations , yet no longer attack any eu international locations or US . i'm asserting it because of the fact precise from historical time China on no account attacked any united states in an aggressive way . They constantly play shielding coverage . It bugs me when 45% of the people I talk to believe that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. It bugs me when 45% of the people I meet think that global warming is a myth and, even if it is true, ultimately does not matter because this is merely a temporary housing. It bothers me that 45% of the people I meet think that evolution is an atheist conspiracy against their God(s).And most of all, it irritates the hell out of me that 45% of the people whom i share my country with are complete idiots.

Erm...none really...at least, none that had to do with America per se....

My family and community are all devout catholics and when I left the faith many of them rejected me. Either that or they desperately tried to "save" me. Ugh.

I'd say it was more my family and community taking my rights from me...but I think it would have happened no matter what country I was in.

I don't get offended by things like "One nation under god" or "god bless america". Really, I get angrier when they forced us to say the pledge of allegiance in school, because I've absolutely no pride in the American govt anymore.

That's right all you govt freaks! Come an' get me! -flicks off-

....Hmm....this was supposed to be an answer focused on religion, wasn't it? ahem. Okay. I'm doing ranting now. XD

Only Christianity could provide religious freedom the U.S. enjoys. So Christians are used to being abused just like Jesus did.

Imagine if it was Islamic or Atheist Communism.

It hasn't caused me any problems personally.

Religion per se isn't the problem in my opinion.......it's the Moral Majority trying to force it's beliefs on local, state, and National laws that's the problem.

Aside from the obvious political monopoly that Christians have on our government...

On a more personal level, most people who may otherwise have been my friends think I'm evil because I don't accept their ideas about god.

Well just the other day (because it is fresh in my mind), a woman walked by me and said "Have a blessed day."

Wow, that is pretty annoying.
