Back in the day inter racial couples were not allowed to marry, religions were not to mix and now homosexuals still are not allowed to marry like they are second class citizens.

I can hear the arguments that if homosexuals are allowed to marry then people would want to marry objects and children. CONSENT AND UNDERSTANDING has to be taken into account. Are they both consenting adults? YES then let them marry.

I have heard the excuse on how would people file taxes. JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE.

Give me a reason that does NOT include RELIGION in it as religion is personal to an individual and should be separate from STATE affairs.

That slip of paper that a lot of you talk about lets someone make medical decisions for partners when they are hospitalized, they entitle the partner to health benefits, they entitle the partner to everything that heterosexual couples take for granted.

The reason that the US is so interested in controlling what consenting adults do is simply fear of the unknown. Since homosexuality and its mechanics are far removed from the reality of the bulk of those currently in power in this country, they react fearfully by seeking to control it in any way they can. They cannot eradicate it (since it is scientifically plausible that homosexuality is a natural state for some) so they seek to limit its acceptance by the mainstream. By maintaining the premise that homosexuals should be deemed as "other" they simultaneously reaffirm their own beliefs that homosexuality is wrong and provide evidence that because the majority of the country feels the way that they do, their way of life must be right (empirically,of course). Historically, the US has had much practice in assigning and maintaining second-class citizenship for certain groups. The withholding of rights to gay and lesbian citizens is business as usual.

If you want this to be about the laws and not about religion, then let me point out a slight misunderstanding on your part.
You said that homosexuals are not allowed to marry like they are second class citizens. However, that is not true. They have the same right to marry, and raise children JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE.
They just cannot marry someone of the same sex, and neither can anyone else.
There is no difference. No ones civil rights are being stepped on. They have the same rights as all the rest of us. I hope you will understand that. Many people do not.

Also if you don't mind, I would like to point something else out to you. You clearly do not like the limits that our laws currently put upon marriage, yet you quickly put your own limits on it yourself, insisting that they must be consenting adults. Well then, it seems you know what's good for everyone. Well who qualifies as an adult? I hope you know that the age of adulthood is different in many places. Not all people agree with those limits either.

My point is this, you are on one side of "changing the marriage law" debate, and you have your reasons, but adjust which law changes, and all of a sudden you jump up with your limits. I hope you see that. You have your reasons for your limits, and other more conservative people have their reasons for their limits. It's not about civil rights, or treating others as "second class". Don't fall for all that rhetoric.

Now about your original question. The reason why the U.S. is so far behind could be because we are that much more concerned with rights and how they work, being that we are a free country. Not only that, but we must examine why the government originally put marriage laws into effect in the first place.

Back when men ruled the world, and women knew their place, Marriage laws where needed to protect women and children. Registration and licensing where also needed to make sure that she could prove that she and her children deserved either alimony or death benefits. Tax laws were put into effect to ease the burden on young families, where the father was the only real bread winner.

So the government could say, "hey, these laws weren't meant for you in the first place. Why do you need them now?"

After all, what do they really gain? a piece of paper?

your very question has to be answered with a religion route. The United states was founded on God! that is why its hard to let anyone marry. As screwed up as some people were with misguided religion the idea to keep things by the book(Bible) was correct. People got there personal ideas and the truth of the Bible messed up. Just think of one thing if Gods out of that he may be taken out of allot of things. Like everyday events your wife thinks she likes a anorther man why not try him out she wont feel bad no reason. Our family courts are full of marriage problems now. Why would we want to increase our court load?

If you haven't noticed, America has always stood out in this world. We have always defended the helpless. We have always fed the hungry. We have always built homes for the homeless. We have always dug wells for the thirsty.

Increasing the court load is a good excuse. Finding 12 jurors for 2 consenting adults that cannot agree is a waste of time and money.

If we consider marriage other than one man and one woman, then we will need to let the old woman marry her dog and the man who wants 50 wives marry 50 wives. Common sense says that the courts must stop at some place. Leave the law as it is.

Seriously, someone in another question I just answered said "well animals don't do it!" Pish! Yee-ah. That doesn't mean animals are always right! I'd like to point this out again to all of those who say "It's not natural. Look at the animals! They choose those of the opposite sex! They're not messed up like humans are!" My neighbor's dog humps everyone's legs. I've seen female animals humping female animals. Does that mean they're wrong? (well, the dogs humping the legs are...^^;) Or does it just mean YOU'RE too close-minded about this whole thing?

And despite what many overly religious people say: many of us don't have sex for the sake of procreation! Many people (myself included) don't ever WANT to have children. So if we use scientific means to prevent ourselves from producing offspring are we "as bad" as the homosexuals?

there are a number of ministers who will do it. in basic terms seek on line for marriage ministers on your section, or look in any wedding ceremony books (you will hit upon them at bridal shops and that they are often loose) and that they've a piece with ministers. additionally, maximum marriage places can refer you to ministers besides. on the present day time, i'm shocked that your minister won't do it. particularly because you adult males have made the call to circulate forward and get married as a exchange of in basic terms residing at the same time. good success!
