I'm 14 yrs old.
that was happening to me all day. one time, though, i got up to get the scrabble game on a shelf and everything went black and i got weak and fell. next thing i remember is waiting for the blackness to go away (it took, like, four seconds) and my closet was a mess.
is this really bad, or something i can live with?
do i need to see a doctor?

I would have your Mom take you to the doctor this doesn't sound right to me, if you were my daughter you'd be off to see the doc. Your blood pressure could be very low for one example of what could be wrong.

I am not an expert or a medical person by any means, so this is just from my common sense and experience:

Basically, you are fainting because your body isn't supplying enough blood to your brain. It could be low blood pressure, or it could be a blockage. There's no way to tell with the information you've given us, and no reputable health professional will try to diagnose it over the net any way. It's probably nothing, or something simple, but you should ask your doctor about it. If it's come on suddenly, you should ask soon, though.

You could be iron deficient... I'm a vegetarian and this happens to me alot, but perhaps you should get a blood test to check and see that it's not something more serious.
