Top 10 Amazing Facts of Mormonism (plus a bonus one)

1. Mormons can become gods and goddesses.
We do believe this to be true.

2. Goddesses will spend eternity in full submission to their god-husband.
No, we don't believe in the wife being submissive to their husbands, we are equal. When I get married my wife is my best friend, we would discuss everything.

3. Mormon women will give birth “forever and ever” to spirit-babies.
This is true, but it has not been revealed on how this will take place.

4. Mormon men can have multiple wives in heaven—eternal polygamy.
Yes, this is true.

5. Heavenly Father is an exalted man who lives with his goddess wife, Heavenly Mother, on a planet near the great star Kolob.
You hit the nail on the head with this one.

6. American Indians are descendants of the wicked Lamanites, who were Israelites that God cursed with dark skin.
Yes.

7. God the Father had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus, who is the half brother of Lucifer.
How it was done we are not sure of, we have no doctrine on how it was done. Jesus is not Lucifer's half brother, but full brother. Both existed in heaven along with the rest of us, Lucifer wanted Gods power for himself and so he got the big boot out of heaven.

8. All Christian churches are an abomination.
The teach for commandments the doctrine of man, and dening a form of Godliness. They may have some truths but not a one has all truths.

9. Mormons need 4 secret handshakes to get into the Celestial heaven.
Not sure on this one.

10. Joseph Smith revealed that the actual Garden of Eden is in Jackson County, Missouri.
This is 100% true.
11. Mormons have found elephant bones in New jersey.
Actually they were found in the La Bria Tar Pits in California.

Ditto to what the other LDS people have said. I would really urge you to check out Jeff Lindsey's site. It really does have all the answers to these questions. Some of what you have said isn't completely true to I'll just point out a few.

#2- Nope. We aren't submissive in this life, we are a partnership. We each give 100% to each other, that's the way I believe it will be in heaven.

#3- I hope not!!! We don't know how it will all work out, but I don't think being pregnant will be part of it.

#6- Yes and no. The lamanites weren't always wicked, but the skin color was changed during a time when they were being wicked. We in no way think this is a reflection of how worthy someone is, or if they are evil because of the color of their skin. All people are equal, and are more then happy to join our church!

#7- NO!!! NO!!! NO!!!! God didn't have sex with Mary!!! I'm sure he knows a little more about physics and human anatomy then anyone on earth has ever known. I'm sure He can come up with a way to make a woman pregnant that doesn't involve a physical joining. Lucifer isn't Jesus' half-brother. They, as we all are, are spirit brothers- just as we are all spirit brothers and sisters, created by God. Jesus is God's only begotten Son. Lucifer was a spirit created by God, who was valiant enough to become an angel. He was trusted by God, and in return, he turned around and tried to take all the glory away from our Heavenly Father. For this, he was cast out of heaven, along with all the spirits who followed him. Read Rev. 12:4, 7-9.

#8- We don't think this at all!! All churches have good things in them, and everyone needs to have faith in something. We believe that everyone has a right to worship as they see fit. We do believe that there are a lot of churches out there that are missing a few key points, and have lost some of the most basic truths.

Here is Jeff Lindsay's site again, just so you have it.

1. All men and women have that potential, not just Mormons. We believe we are sons and daughters of God and He wants us to become LIKE Him.
2. Uh, no. Marriage is a partnership, we are in it together. Men cannot eternally progress without their wife nor women without their husband.
3. Uh, I would say yes and no. We don't really know for sure what is going to happen but we do know that in the Celestial Kingdom, the family unit will exist and there will be the chance for the family to expand.
4.Yes and no. We don't necessarily believe that polygamy is required...but it is possible for a man to be eternally sealed to more than one woman. Let me share an example. My neighbor's mom died when he was 12. His parents had been sealed in the temple. After his mom died, his father remarried and was sealed to that wife for eternity. So, his dad is sealed to both women and had children with both. Now, why would God make him choose which spouse to be with throughout eternity?
5. Yeah, it's more complicated and special than that but that is the basic.
6. Yes, pretty much.
7. No on both.
8. No, we believe all churches have some good.
9. Yes and no. We learn certain things in the temple but there is much more in gaining exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom.
10. That can be found in the Doctrine & Covenants.
11. Never heard that one.

Keep in mind, all the things you brought up are all very typical things people ask about the church because doctrinally, they are really big things. Think of it this way, would you understand Algebra if you didn't know any addition or subtraction or multiplication? That is why we learn things line upon line, precept upon precept, and a lot of the "big" doctrine is not understood and seems weird to non-members because they haven't had the foundation built yet...

1. We believe that everyone has the potential to "inherite all that the Father has"
2. No, a marriage is a partnership, in this life and the next.
3. We don't know how spirit children are created. Even if it is through pregnancy, that doesn't mean they will continously be pregnant.
4. If he has been sealed to more than one woman, then yes.
5. Yes
6. The dark skin was not the curse, but a mark to let the righteous people know who they shouldn't marry.
7. I don't know how Mary got pregnant. Jesus is not Lucifer's half-brother. We are all children of God, including Jesus, Lucifer, you, and me.
8. Abomination is a strong word. We believe that Christian churches do a lot of good and their members have great faith, but they lack the fulnes of the gospel.
9. There is a lot of symbolism in the temple ordinances. I haven't died yet, or talked to anyone that has, so I don't know if it is symbolic or literal.
10. Yep
11. I've never heard that before.

1. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

2. A couple may be sealed together for eternity. If the husband excercises any degree of unrightiousness, amen to his priesthood.

3. Men can't.

4. Will Jacob be united to both Rachel and Leah?

The balance are tedious oversimplifications of complex topics.

I'm LDS (please refer to us as that and not Mormon...Mormon was a prophet of God, not a group of people.) I was raised LDS. I cannot believe that so many of these "rumors" are still floating around. It seems that they keep being recycled. For all alswers to your questions, please go straight to the source and our official website. I have heard a lot of these too, so when I met a Mormon woman in one of my classes I asked her some questions. She told me that many aspects of the religion are "secret" and she could not discuss them with me.
I didn't really understand that answer because I was under the impression that people liked to spread the word about their religion.
I'll be very interested in the answers you get. Good question!

Sounds like you are fighting against rumors you've heard and haven't really given the faith a chance. Have you read and prayed about the Book of Mormon?
