Hopefully, you at least have overcurrent protection devices (fuses and circuit breakers)

Size all the wire so that it can handle a short that will trip the device.

Just don't load a line to provide more current than it is built to -- it's okay to have 4 power strips on a line if each socket is powering a 4 watt nightlight. If each socket is powering a space heater then you'll have problems.
